We have more "old farts" who remember the glory days of Space Marine than the dark days of Epic 40k/Armageddon, though a few did try and make the transition into the newer games.
The newer, younger members of the group are the ones who have played EA, but want to join in the fun that is NetEpic (although much of this comes from the fact that I resurrected it in our playgroup and no one wanted to go down the EA route instead).

Hi!

Mattman, after some thought, I'm adopting your IG layout for mechanization of the IG. It basically works like the orks list where added trasported adds to total cost, break point and VP of the unit.

The IG list will be purely "on foot" for those whom wish to leave it this way with the added layer that you suggested above.

Once the revision is done and I'm doing the layout, I think I could pull off adding alternate formation tables for the smaller E:A formations. The math is not very cumbersome and I can easily convert full formation costs to model/stand costs and reformulate an approximation for those E:A formations.

Hi!

While the formatting is still far off, what sources should I use for formulating the E:A formations?

Hi!

Mattman, I have finished the spreadsheet files and am proceeding with the discussed updates.

Instead of listing company level transport, I will only list platoon level transport pools of 3 vehicles (for platoons of 6 stands or less) and pools of 5 vehicles (for platoons of 10 stands).

If you want to fit a company all you need is to take 3 transport platoons of the correct size. Same time and space.

I know I'm late to the party, but here are my 2¢ (in case anyone cares :D ).

I'm all for with replacing Rhinos with Chimeras for transport, but I'd still like to use Rhino-based vehicles for my IG.

Regular IG troopers are groundpounders, with the option to add transports. Tech Guard/Skitarii, however, should be mechanized. I would prefer that IG platoons are kept at 5 and 10 stands per the old TO&E.

But the numbers in a platoon is part of the problem, it isn't just 5 and 10, it is 5, 10 and 6. Platoon sizes go to 6 strong when you buy them with transports. Take the Assault Platoon, the Assault Infantry Company has 3 platoons of 5 stands each. The Mechanised Assault Platoon has 3 platoons of 6 stands and 3 chimeras each. It is the same with the Heavies and the Tacticals go from 10 stands in a platoon, to 6 when they are mechanised.
Basically if a player wants to build a guard army, he can choose the companies he wants, then if he wants to have the option of mechanising them he needs to also make sure he has extra stands available as well as the chimeras.
It is just massively wrong to have all these different sizes.

I am going to throw another option out there. Rather than playing around with 5s or 6s, make the standard Platoon size 10 stands for everything, but cut the number of Platoons in a company to 2.
Now this is my reasoning. A standard 40k guard army is based around an HQ choice and 2 Troop choices, that seems like a fair basis for a company. A Platoon counts as a troop choice. Each Platoon can have up to 5 squads (10 men in each) and each squad can be armed as tacticals, assault or heavies, so you could easily have assault or heavy platoons of 50 men. Take two 50 man Platoons with your command squad and you have your company.

Hi!

I think it is just easier to leave as is and formulate alternate formations as a separate document.

It is too much for people to reorganize their longstanding armies.

The IG segment of the primarchload is organized this way. There is just no way I can reorganize all that.

An alternate formation list should be provided for those whom want a different (smaller) formations.

Hi!

I have decided that the best way to go forward is two things:

1. Formulate a unit cost point system for balance.
2. Base formation building on that.

Neither will impact what is already there (I have to keep my promising on not changing net epic gold), but it will facilitate people from any system to play with what they have.

At this point it really needs to be its own project. :)

Going to ask a dumb question. Why can't the Guard tale a loan Warlord Titan? Between them and the Adeptus Titanicus book there is technically no actual option to take a stand alone Warlord Titan. Is there any reason or is it a typo?

I suspect it is a misprint. They should have them. In fact the stats for warlords are listed at the end, but not the reaver! So a few misprints me thinks.

Hi!

The gold update will mainly be this, correcting the typos/omissions.

By the way Mattman, I haven't forgotten to kickstart the points formula project. Just waiting for the holidays to end. ;)
