Like the top right version with the Slann sat in an indentation on the top of the ball rather than precariously balancing on top.
Had a thought that because the Slann very rarely move and communicate mostly telepathically that they have taken to being hardwired into their thrones to boost their powers. They would have loads of cables running from their bodies to their thrones like you see in anything Cyberpunk or like the guys from the Matrix, sort of like this:

Hardwired head

Yes, that is the plan. You can see in the sketches that some slann have wires in their heads. But wires feel not very... slaanish... (wait a minute =__o )
So I try to find a good grade of cyborgification and the best way to visualize it.

Ah yes, I see them now, missed them the first time. Sweet.

Wow,

A lot of time has passed rather quickly, I guess its what they call real life... or thirthy something... But I must say I've thorougly enjoyed browsing through this forum the last couple of hours. I think it may have been 3 years since my last visit. The Slann topic caught my interest as it probably was the most debated rules back in the day on the old yahoogroup.

The consept art is really good I must say, and the army list do deserve their own line of minis.

Back when we playtested the rule set, I found myself at the business end of the Slann army quite a lot. There was a lot of trial and error, with the Slann almost always coming out on top. In the end I succumbed to "if you can't beat them then join them " and invested in a long range of proxies, first building a Necron only, then a true Slann only army list.

I had a look at the army list Peter linked a couple of pages back, and I think our gaming group did go a bit further in limiting Slann stats in our own house rules. So I was wondering if anyone has any recent experience playng with theSlann list, and what your reflections are. Army strenghts/weaknesses and so on.

Cheers
Nils

Hi!

Hey Nils, nice to see you here! :)

Now that minis and suitable proxies are on the horizon, I've decided to keep the Slann list on the back burner until we know what we have available. I would say it was overall on the "stronger side".

I would say when the time comes we would do a FULL revision with the slann, meaning actually playtest data to see if our impression prove to be true.

I suspect massive tweaking will be in order. ;)

By the way we'll be starting a "mini revise" tomorrow on the Net Epic portion of the forums to update and perhaps finally lay to rest the typos and copy/paste errors we've been dragging along for over a decade. ;)

Also, we intend to fill up an "addendum codex" with a good amount of alternate rules, units etc.

Fun times! ;D

Fun times indeed.

I most certainly have my playtesting notes stored somwhere, or so I believe. We've moved several times over the last 8-10 year so most of my collection is in storage. But if needed I can have a look when the time comes to revise Slann. I did however finally get around to painting my Tau Army last x-mas holliday so the hobby hasn't died entirely :)

Cheers

Hi!

Your sounding too much like me. :)

Real life does indeed occupy much of ones time. Like you have "been out of it" for as long as I have, 8-10 years.

It's nice to have some of the "old guard' back. :)

Hi!

Hey Nils! Check out this website on this figures. They are 10mm, but some of these would make good potential proxies for slann knights/titans or anything else...

What do you think?

Oh my, the world has evolved while we were in hibernation!

Here you have most everything you need for a true Slann army. They truly look the part. They had some pretty nifty scenery too.

Hi!

True, but Tau don't have walkers.... ;)

Although we can make some. :)

I just hope Deacon can put out some interesting things. ;D

The TAU are GW's 40k equivallent of NetEpic Slann ;) . We released Slann a fair bit before they created TAU. I remeber thinking - hey someone has been reading netepic when Tau was released.

I had a new look at the Slann Gold edition. I had forgotten that the necrons where changed to fit the GW line of miniatures. We never actually moved past version 3.0 of netepic. There where just to many controversial changes in the following revisions for us.

Anyhow, are we looking at making minis for the current units or entierly new troop choices?

Hi!

Hey that means GW took our IP when they copied our unique slann for their Tau! Let's SUE! ;) :P

It takes me back, when you say "controversial changes". I miss the old days of hardcore revisions! ;D

By the way, GW was paying attention to our yahoo list conversations. Jervis Johnson was on it and even posted to it. Between 1997 and 2001 we got a LOT of scrutiny from them. Who knows what insight they gained from it. ;)

I don't know what Deacon may do. I mentioned to him to be creative and not be beholden to that army list. Its easier to fit the army list to available choices.

Of course, if there are models that fit things we already have we use those, if not we make new ones. I think we can make an exciting unique Slann army if we know ahead of time what proxies we can use.

Yupp,

A brand new Slann list could be the way to go, but for the sake of those of us who have scavenged diffrent miniaturelines in order to scramble together a decent force we probably need to keep most of the existing uints around. I mean it's not like we are GW creating a new codex :D

However, one thing we missed the first time around was that we included a little bit of everything in the Slann army. They had firepower to match IG, could assault like marines, had the movability and weaponry of eldar, the stubbornness of squats and almost as many troop choices as the chaotic guys.

Since Necrons now more or less follow the GW fluff, I would wote to drop them from the Slann. Both in their original state and now they are more than capable of operating on their own anyway.

I think the best angle of attack would be to create a core true slann list with its own unique flavour and then build from that.
