Rang up GW Oz/NZ, ended up getting a BFG Dauntless Torpedo Light Cruiser (last one), and an Epic Chaos infantry box set (one of two they had left). Everything else I was looking for was gone. Sigh... so long GW, hasn't been good to know you recently.

I finally gave in, and decided to just purchase a box of Chaos infantry, as I have a feeling the additional Daemons and Marines won't go amiss for my Net Epic force.

It's amazing how quickly all the Eldar stuff has disappeared, there certainly was a buying spree!

Yeah it was hard to not try and get some Dauntless but I was stretched pretty far already. I have a whole pile of Voss Lt cruisers already so I can at least use them in a count-as situation. Eldar going that fast doesn't surprise me. They're a very specific look that isn't easily proxies with anything currently on the public market at the moment.

Well, I didn't really want to open that can of worms again ;).

Even so, the speed has surprised me. It's just as well I didn't belatedly decide that I wanted anything.

Irony is that Tau and Dark Eldar are about to be easier to field than anything else (Guard excluded) :D
AdMech purposely excluded as there's no released army from GW for them period so they've always been a proxy situation to start with.

I've had one order from GW sit as "processing" for nearly two weeks. It was all available within 24 hours at the time I made the order, but I watched until 3 of the 4 items have become "unavailable" afer the first two days. Kind of irritating.

I sort of understand that one, as itmeans their inventory system just wasn't keeping up. The second order, however, is more irritating. I ordered squig catapults and Landas a week ago. Both items *still* show "usually ships within 34 hours", and yet the order is still "processing" after 7 days.

Very, very annoying.

Needless to say, both payments processed overnight. The delay had best be because they are scrapping up some leftover metal to cast me some new minis. :{[]

For the lowliness of mind of a grey manager, a grey bureaucrat that spent his life looking an excel file instead battle report, money mark in the head, the EE want kill epic? Epic'll never die. I think with homesickness at the first white dwarf, when jervis, jhon blanche and all the company was young, and probably we too.

I know this would be a pointless activity but I would like to write a letter to GW reference Epic. To whom would be the best person to address it to?

My line of thinking is this - my son is very interested in Epic, he loves the titans and tanks etc, and even slightly understands the games mechanics. He doesn't show any interest in the 40k stuff whatsoever, my nephew (who is around 12) also loves epic. Therefore a different section of Gamesworkshop's target audience (i.e. kids with middleclass parents) can be appealed to as well and we reap the benefits (well perhaps not our wallets).

Thanks,

Rob

I think that would be rather fruitless to be honest.....

if they're interested in large scale gaming, get them interested in any of the alterative systems available currently, off the top of my head, there is Seeds of War (DRM), Future War Commander (any of the ...war commander series really), Strike Legion, Dystopian Wars, Firestorm: Armada - planetfall, Dropzone commander, Exodus Wars (currently in Beta I believe), Polyversal (due out soon I think....with a big box release to boot!)

Do this before GW gets its hooks into them! that happened to me and it's really very difficult to get out of the 'GW provides all of my hobby needs' mentality, some of the people in this thread are good evidence of that!!

Yes. That. Teach them about the hobby. Not The Hobby (tm). About being free to do whatever you want and go where your and your friend's creativity lead you.

plus, epic is a great ruleset, it could easily be adapted to fit other models....

the question needs to be 'are they interested in GW epic, or are they interested in epic-scale gaming'

Good question. I think they would try other games in 6mm, as long as they had similar models etc. It would be good for as well. Any suggestions on not an overly complicated set of rules?

I don't think any of the ones I mentioned previously are too complicated, tactically complex maybe, but easy enough to learn, I would put money on them *all* being considerably less complicated than WFB/40K

AFAIK the Exodus Wars rules are heavily influenced by the epic armageddon rules and are available for free download, AND Exodus Wars has a really nice range of miniatures to suit most tastes, I'm sure you could get the kids interested if you waved a nice shiny behemoth under their noses ;)

Yup! They are very nice and IMO actually fix some issues that were found in the EA ruleset over the years. At a minimum the whole D10 vs D6 was an improvement with the higher fidelity on the unit stats. We have a project porting Epic units over to EW going on here. Join in! :D

If you like the Epic Armageddon ruleset (and I do) then you don't really need to switch rules; just find some miniatures that you like to go with them.
