Ultimately it provides a very direct way to differentiate the two forces and make them distinct.

A rather odd distinction, though. As-is there isn't much possibility for a mixed Skitarii-Titan list, which is a rather glaring omission, IMO. I'd just include them as allies.

The attack force will have Titan support.

for my kickabout list i kept titans as simple allies as with other imp lists. balancing the hundreds of variants of titan inside the skittari list ( since diff titans force diff playstyles was a bit much.) i did make the same differential between pdf and assault skittles as you do so i think every prospective list is in thematic agreement on that at least.

All forgeworlds have a Titan legion. The background is clear on that.

The background is flexible when we want it to be. There clearly isn't any Heresy era missile equipped vehicle but that doesn't stop people suggesting it for the Chaos list.

The fluff is also at odds with itself. Titans are rare but clearly they can't be if there is a Titan Legion on every Forge World. Ordinatus Majoris are so rare that they are considered artefacts by the AM and named based on the planets they were built for but we play a game where the assumption is that every AM force will have access to one.

The fluff describes a universe that is economically unsustainable and somehow threatened by races that are a fraction of its size.

But aside from all that, this is a game where the army lists are meant to provide us with hobby options and tactical choices. If you don't like the idea of an AM force without Titans then there's another list being prepared that will have them.

I'm not commenting on your list idea as a specific representation of an element of the panoply of forces available to the mechanicus you understand, just noting that it's canon in the background that the majority have Titan legions.

Actually it's the other way round: Every Titan Legion has its base on a Forge World.

To quote the Lexicanum:
Quote:
Each Legion is based on its own Forge World - most Forge Worlds having one (or in some cases several) Titan Legions.

We're fine with a list representing a force without Titans. I believe E&C is simply pointing out that in his opinion your core reasoning is incorrect, not the list choice. There's many reasons why they'd be missing (needed elsewhere, insufficient numbers to be at every battle, maintenance).

The fluff clearly states:
Quote:
Each Legion is based on its own Forge World - most Forge Worlds having one (or in some cases several) Titan Legions.

Legion detachments are stationed throughout the galaxy, guarding vulnerable locations across the Imperium.

Legion strength is typically around 50 operational engines.

Why not? That's their origin story: They are the heavy hitters of the AdMech. The explorator fleets sent out from Mars during the Age of Strife carried a copy of Templates, Scientists, Forces, and a new founded Titan legion to "recreate an image of Mars". You are making the mistake of associating frequency to Forgeworlds. They are quite rare in comparison to the teeming masses of humanity on the rest of the Imperial planets. In an Empire of a million worlds they (Forge Worlds) probably make up a small precentage of planets. This does NOT preclude the presence of AdMech installations and manufactorums across the imperium but installation != Forge World. :)

Each one is a unique work of art, created for a specific reason (and hence the tradition of naming it after the world it was created on). To prevent a list size of infinity a few samples are named and included to be a general representative of the concept.

You're worried about unrealistic economic viability in a game set 38 thousand years in the future in a universe where genetically engineered super men fly across the galaxy in city sized ships with enough firepower to level entire continents and then fly down to the surface to fight hand to hand with chainsaws? Wow ;)

As to the "threatened by races a fraction [their] size" you should look to the byzantine and roman empires, both troubled throughout their long histories by small tribal groups (Goths, Huns, Turks, etc)

Word that, ninja. Carry on. :D

The discrepancy is more that there are fewer named Titan legions than named forgeworlds. That doesn't preclude the fluff that most forgeworlds have titan legions nor does it mean that titans dont appear relatively rarely when you factor the mechanicus' reticence to deploy their god machines.

We've also discussed measures in the past to make the majoris a rare option, but seeing they dont get taken that often rit now, I don't think it's really too much of an issue. :)

Not making it easier to rectify is that GW likes to keep some of the mystery behind the background and so keeps a lot of it rather nebulous and not well thought out or chronicled.

Another instance where a small change in wording makes a huge difference. :-)

I think that the background is just badly written. I think almost any facility would have the capabilities to build a Majoris. But just that these would not be as unique and treasured as some of the named Majoris which would be more akin to iconic machines from an older age.

The core issue with the Titans in a list that is meant to be a) defensive and b) focus around the creations of Tech Lords and Magos is that Titans, rightfully, quickly become the focus of a battle in E:A. Especially large titans. So nicing them from the list means that the focus can go back to the Majoris and Minoris and make it seem more like a desperate defense in which the AM is building units and modifying Forge Knights into fighting units to create a force to attack the enemy while the Skitarii and Servitor forces through themselves forward in an attempt to slow down the enemy.

If there are Titans in that list then there seems to be less of a sense of drama.
