It's not the cheapest event on the calendar, but i'd also consider it the best - so in my book it's still well worth the cost :)

While I agree with Richard and intend to go I do think the new pricing structure is a mistake. Seperating accomadation+ticket just means tickets look very expensive when compared to other events

I would add that we are not the core market for this event. I guess if the number of ancient players drops then the new committee may need to look again.

It's always been pricey, and quite how one bit at £50 and one bit at £64 is different to one big £114 payment I don't know. Yes you no longer get free parking I guess, and the locals pay the same as residental for entry now.

Perception - £114 for 3 days play+accomadation. £50 just for a ticket and no food?

Still a great tournament+social event though

Bought my ticket.

I'm going to stay in the student rooms (perfectly reasonable, and close by)... well I think I am - not got any confirmation from them yet (will give them another day).

Tis a shame this is our only 4k tournament of the year... I've got too many ideas for lists. How many gunfortresses could I bring?

Titting Nora - that's a big price tag.

Although I've enjoyed Britcon - it's been the people there rather than the facilities. I've found it really over-priced in previous years, and the new price really doesn't sit well with me.

The terrain is disappointing - all that's provided is a green cloth with shabby marking tape. Any nice pieces there are because they've been provided by the gamers themselves.

No awards for best army or the like within the system.

No food. Come on - Throne of Skulls has three hot meals.

Give the British HISTORICAL gaming society a break. They invite groups that would like to run tournaments and provide facilities to do so. They handle all the gaming admin and provide tables. Their focus is on the ancient periods, and rightly so in my opinion as they number 150+.

You have to remember that in the majority of ancient games the players bring terrain, as defined by the list they are playing. Setting up the terrain is actually part of the game, trying to get the battlefield layout to favour your army. So it's hardly a surprise they don't provide any. Another reason its all felt patches as you have to move it each game :)

The lack of food doesn't put me off, I like that I can decide what I want and not be stuck with what's provided.

But everyone is entitled to chose how to spend their gaming money. Shame none of the Manchester crowd will be there but can't be helped.

For me it's more the chance to play larger games that really makes it for me - 6 4000pt games over a 3 day weekend is a real treat, plus there's always the chance to get in a pickup game earlier in the day on the Friday if you're feeling extra masochistic!

Also, i'm quite glad they don't do food on the evenings (well, not ones i'd want to eat anyway - ) as the social dinners out are pretty much an epic tradition now imo :)

I honestly think we may end up with 8 - 10 this year, with 8 potentially more likely.

Have you had a confirmation email? Mine arrived a couple of days after booking?

'Tis a bit of a shame they don't have a list of confirmed entrants by system really, would make life much easier! I got a brief confirmation e-mail about a week after i'd booked.

Oh, and Simon - It's between 28 and 35 gunfortresses maximum at 4000pts (pending how many activations you want) isnt it? ;)
