So I was thinking, at EW HQ we do bases in metal and resin.

They are expensive for both us and the customer.

Plastic is substantially cheaper in the long run and at the right price would make bases a much sought after commodity.

i make my own rules – 12*40 :-\ can't imagine why you'd do anything else? Unless GW has legal rites over all 2*12*40mm bits of plastic?

Or, circular but with 5 holes.

5 and 4 hole versions if strip bases, please. I can make 3 regularly spaces holes from 5 hole bases – harder to make 4 holes evenly.

*edit before the grammer police turn up.

Three words:

Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!

If you could afford to break even on several shapes of base it would be even better. I'm thinking 40mm x 12mm strips, 20mm x 20mm squares, and 25mm rounds, all with 5 recessed holes. If someone wants fewer models it's easy to fill holes, so you'd really only need those three, unless you wanted to do vehicle bases.

Now all you need to do is let EW do the production for you... or make sure you stay one step ahead.

I agree on both points.

maybe on every sprue 1 base is a 4 hole base? so you have a ratio of 5:1 or 10:1 depending on sprue size, that way those that dont really want a 4 hole base arnt inconvienienced much but those that want them can get them.

Actually i guess it depends on whether you would sell them as a sprue or as individual units?

If you were going to sell them individually you can still maintain a 6:1 ratio or whatever and just seperate after casting.

From what little I undestand of the industry, mixing bases on a single sprue and selling seperately won't work well. You and up with an excess of one type, which eats into your margin. It would be better to judge each base type on it's profitability seperately, and commission a seperate sprue for each type. This means that there is no labor cost in seperating bases from sprues and if one massively outsells the other, you can do runs based on need instead of having dead inventory at the end of the day.

Don't mind too much on 4 holes, it would just be nice to have. Whereas having any rectangular bases so that they rank up with all my 100s of existing 12*40s is essential.

You know netepic it was the 40x10 GW bases that got me back into 6mm gaming every other time i would paint an army base it 20x20 or 30x30 and think ... this looks s..t and put them away. I know there are those who may love the old base sizes, but my view is way to go plastic 40mm bases.

I voted for 20mmx20mm Squares with 5 Holes, but I like SG idea the best above. Circles, Strips and hexs with 5 holes would be nice too.

GW bases are 12*40mm. How many of the people voting 10*40mm actually think it means 'GW' size? :P

12x38 and 1/2 IIRC

Id say more like 39.5–40mm, depending on mould lines and sanding off of sprue points.

Netepic, does 10 * 40 here mean 10 * 40, or does it mean 'the usual size' (12 * 40 ± 0.5)?

I would love somebody to make clear acrylic "penny" bases (actually 15mm diameter) 3mm deep, with 2 (or possibly 3) 6mm indents 1mm deep in them.

Being greedy I'd like a 30mm option too but these would be used for vehicle basing instead of infantry.

See thread for inspiration.
