Hi All

Another war engine related question.

Should a WE with void shields fail a dangerous terrain test, does it loose a void shield or take a hit (no save)?

Cheers

It takes the hit & possible critical roll.

lol

...and as we saw on Saturday that can in fact hurt :)

I thought it would take the hit but was not certain as your altar (which blithely ran accross rubble and ended up being sucked into the warp) does not have void shields.

The damage would be akin to close combat damage if you think about it.

Think about it like this:

Void Shields can't protect you from skinning your knee.

So what exactly is a void shield? Is it what we would imagine as a shield of energy forming a 'bubble' around the titan? Hence CC and terrain would bypass it as it is effectively inside the bubble.

How would one describe a holofield in terms of fluff? Is it a projection of the titan so you think it is where it is not?

It's an energy field which stops fast moving objects and certain frequencies of light/energy from moving through it. In the latest Salamanders book infantry were able to walk through them (as they weren't going fast enough to be stopped).

On the holofield, I always assumed it made the Titan appear where it's not.

Yes.

The holofield fragments the image of the vehicle (in all spectra - visual, radar, whatever), sending out holograms of the pieces in all directions to obscure the actual location of the vehicle. Basically, it is concealment through noise projection.

If I remember correctly, the Void shield creates a bubble that exists partly in the materium, and partly in the Warp. Upon being struck with sufficient force, it actually throws the energy/object into the Warp. Of course, this temporarily throws the circuts on the shield, bringing it down.

Void Shields are a development of the warp missile, which creates an uncontrolled warp breach over a wide area. Void Shields may exist partly in the warp, but they are not effective as shields there. This is why the Warp Missile is effective; it 'ducks' into the Warp for a breif time just before impact, circumventing any Void Shields the target has operational.
