Hello!

(This won't be a blog, I couldn't update it in any periodical way..)

Thanks to this terrific forum and especially with the help in my previous thread, I managed to get some victorious first games and through that, finally started seeing some painting results with my zombie robots! The infantry by Steel Crown makes me wish it were always so easy. But as much as I like the obelisk, I can't decide how to place the colours!

I'm set on the grim & frostbitten white-black-(metal)-bloodred. But the red doesn't seem to work (ie show properly on the table) when it's in the deep slit near the top. What else could be red instead? Would the big front glyph work at all? All ideas welcome...

As a bonus I'll post a couple really furious Ork conversions (WIP) by a friend I managed to lure back to miniatures... Guess he had always been, inside, a frothing crazy mekaniak.

I'd drybush the base underneath the obelisk with the red, to give you an ominous glow, to match the tip.

how about any of these options?

im not sure if thee is a gap between the black and the greay bases so that might not be an option. Also not 100% on the top pyramid, just drew it on there to see what it looked like trying to make it looks like the power is coming to the top ready to zap someone.

Insufficient power!

Hey but those siderails that are 3 on each side could indeed work... Thanks for the replies!

Well you could undercoat the Obelisk white. Then paint all recesses briglty red. Then paint evertyhing in this frostbite-black but keep care to not paint the recesses. This way it will look as it would glow red from within.

That sounds really interesting. But I suspect that would mingle too much with the already black base and distance too much from the white troopers. I'm determined to try that approach with some terrain though, so thanks!

Just for reference I'll post a pic of the original version of that Obelisk:

I was supposed to follow the Cron Monolith aesthetic, so any areas you'd paint as powered there you can safely paint as powered on these. Mainly though the recesses at the top of the obelisk were to be for emitters and with some power lines here and there. The bitz that looks a little like heat sinks weren't supposed to be powered as much.

Hey those are cool. Why were they changed?

At this precise moment I'm painting a new obelisk, but I'm beginnning to doubt I won't have the patience to paint all those power lines on every one of these... white and red and all... :)

Sigh. Originally Vaaish printed the masters, then sent them to me for silicon and resin molding. The corners were straightforward, but something about the central core seemed to defy reproducing their perfect symmetry. So, I bronzed the core and made those available, and made just enough resin corners for Vaaish.

I never realized how popular the obelisk core would become.

Otter, I can always send you the masters for the corners, I don't have much need of them and they are just sitting around the house.

The next part of the story is that I also have masters of the corner, but am too lazy to cast on a regular schedule. Well, lazy isn't the most apt descriptor. Apathetic or weary come closer.

There was a time crossover; when Otterman frist cast the Obelisk I was still casting mine, so demand was initially not that high, but when I stopped doing mine, demand for his grew even though it only had the core section.

Ok, I understand now.

It does kinda make sense that obelisks are so small compared to monoliths, they're so much wimpier stat-wise. Even if a bulkier model would impose the ancient evil to a more suitable degree.
