I would, however, be interested to know how many Apocalypse players who've never played Epic felt it was still good after having played several games of Epic.

I've intro'd many such people to Epic.

In some cases, their eyes are opened as they realise the shallowness of the "tactics" available in Apocalypse.

In the majority of cases, they simply don't see the point in playing a game that doesn't have the instant gratification of 40k/Apocalypse.

I enjoy playing W40K if played with the right opponent (i.e. someone who is playing for fun rather than WAAC). But I have never even been slightly interested in Apocalypse. The only positive thing I can say about it is that it has given us some new cool plastic kits for W40K. But the gameplay and lack of tactics.....

I have always said that if you want to play with Baneblades and Stompas then you should be playing Epic. The last time our local club was running an Apocalypse game, I arranged to play a 6K game of Epic using AMTL so they could see massed Titans on the field. (Unfortunately we had to play upstairs because of space so many of the kids did nt get to see the game).

Cheers

James

That's always how it is. Just about every SG tournament/big game I've ever played in has been (coincidentally) at the rear corner of the annex of the local Bunker. It's almost a pattern.

Out of sight, out of mind...Just what GW is looking for in an SG game. ::)

I started playing epic because of the realization that 40k Apoc was a giant clusterhump.

I don’t blame GW for Apocalypse. A lot of people really do have massive collections and needed something to do with them. I’m not sure there was any other solution, since even people with 10,000 points usually have only enough table space for a normal 40k game.

As madd0ct0r said, it’s the climax to a movie battle – the moment right before two converging armies hit each other. At that point it’s too late for tactics. You just roll dice, mow down troops, ravage columns of tanks, and cackle maniacally. I don’t think it really counts as a game, just a fun excuse to roll out the products of one’s hobby.

The only thing that boggles my mind is how seriously some people take 40k as a game.

Apocalypse is mainly about fun.
Finally you can use ALL your models at once.
Some weapons are very powerful in order to shorten the game as they remove large quantities of models very qickly.
Some formations have ridiculous special rules to have the same effect as those weapons.

Wh40k (without Apocalypse)is more serious but...some people take it to serious too :D
As well as Epic ;)

"Apocalypse is mainly about fun."

I don't know a game that isn't about fun. Apoc seems to be more about building a parking lot.

"Some weapons are very powerful in order to shorten the game as they remove large quantities of models very qickly."

You mean like a 12 gauge loaded with bird shot? A large sneeze would remove a swath of models, you can't help but hit a target that big.

From the pics of the Victoria game the only thing Apoc proves to me is there seem to a large number of teens out there with more disposable income then I'll ever hope to see working full time. :o

With "fun" i meant that Apocalypse isn't for the competitive player. If your side wins it's just a bonus :)

nah, I heard about epic in an Incoming! article. downloaded the rules, built an experiment ork list or two, and then after that 40k felt really really small.

i still play it, becuase everyone else around me does.
