I find myself with a fully painted, 6000 point, Ghazgkhull Mag Uruk Thrakka's War Horde wondering just how much stuff, I would need, to field a 3,000 / 4,000 point Feral Ork army...

... I have all the infantry...

... I really fancy having an 'Orkesaurus Horde'...

...ummm...

After a cup of tea, scribbling on three pieces of paper and changing the batteries within my calculator I discovered that I would only need about:

80x Boarboy models
30x madboy models
4x weirdby models
4x Squig Catapults
4/5x Orkesaurus.

Now, most of the above is quite easy to get hold of and cheap ... apart from the Orkesaurus. At around £20 each (plus a lot of painting) it's quite a lot to fork out for an army that I don't know if it'll be any good or, more importantly, I'll enjoy. I therefore started to scour the internet for cheaper alternatives that I could use as a proxy before I committed.

This is where I need a little help; so far I've been focusing on childrens dinosaur models (found this: http://www.everythingdinosaur.com/styra ... s-399.html which wouldn't look too bad with a base and a howda) and Star Wars animals. However I haven't found that much.

Anyone got any good ideas for a suitable 'proxy' Orkesaurus?

The Warmaster Lizardman Stegadon is about half the price of the Orkeosaurus. It's about the right size (maybe a touch small, but pretty close) and would require a lot less conversion than a plain old dinosaur. It already has a howda and appropriate trim detail. You'd just need to replace the lizardmen with orky guns.

Incidentally, I think you could do something similar with WM Araby Elephants for Squiggoths - some plasticard armor plates and gun turrets on the howda.

And, of course, eBay. I picked up a couple Forgeworld Orkeosaurus models on the cheap over the course of a couple years.

I had a Warmaster Stegadon, I'd say it's too small for my taste, probably half the mass of the SG Orkeosaurus. They'd make good standard Squiggoths though?

they're only the size of squiggoths, so It was some sort of frankestein beast planned for the Orkeosaurus.

Forgeworld used to make an epic version of their gargantugan squiggoth, you might find one on Ebay.

Expio: What 'Toy' did you start from to make your Orkesaurus?

I've had a look at some of the ideas and some do look a little too small (great for Squiggoths though).

Keep the ideas coming in, there does seem to be a quite a lot of variety out there.
