Played my first game with the Gargant list on Saturday against Furgie, and it was good fun, if a little rock/paper/scissors!

My list was:-

850 Gurt Gargant
650 Gargant
325 Supa Stompa - Bigga Generata upgrade
325 Supa Stompa - Bigga Generata upgrade
325 Big Loota mob, + 2 free kustom upgrades (Zzap guns)
250 Loota mob, + 3 kans
150 Fighta sqwadron

And, in writing this post up, I've just noticed my list only comes to 2875! Whoooops.......

This is the list that I faced:-

For some reason I can't get the picture to display - anyone able to give me the right syntax?

Cheers

Brief run down of the game involved the Orks pushing foward into a wall of Shadowsword, Russ, Basilisk and Warhound fire!

Playing well to his lists' strengths, Furgie set about cutting the various War Engines down to size. I have to say the Shadowswords are devestating when faced in numbers.

Possibly the biggest mistake made by Furgie was allowing his Arty company to be his BTS, and then choose them to guard his Blitz. As soon as I saw this the GG was plonked down to take the shortest route possible across the board.

In the end I edged a 2-1 win, BTS and Blitz vs BTS.

I'll drop a rundown of how the different units performed shortly.

850 Gurt Gargant
Did as well as you'd expect a GG to do. When not failing rerolled initative tests he blundered forwards, taking out a shadowsword, smashing up some of the BTS and some Russ, before being totalled during turn 3.

650 Gargant
With bigger juicier targets, and smaller softer ones the Gargant actually avoided a lot of flak it would otherwise attract. Ended the game finishing off the Arty company and claiming the Blitz. In fairness it was down to about 3DC by this point.

325 Supa Stompa - Bigga Generata upgrade
Would have been toast with the extra shields. Broke easily and struggled to rally. Kicked out some decent firepower despite only having the two weapons though.

325 Supa Stompa - Bigga Generata upgrade
Ditto above

325 Big Loota mob, + 2 free kustom upgrades (Zzap guns)
Unsung stars on the show IMO. Garrisioned in cover, were a bugger to shift, and with the two Zzap gun upgrades were a menace to the nearby Shadowswords and Russ. Great value at 325pts

250 Loota mob, + 3 kans
Nice little combat mob. With other more pressing targets they weren't beaten up too much, until I ran them forwards into the centre of the board that is. Returned into cover to guard my Blitz.

150 Fighta sqwadron
Made nuisance of themselves and were essential in sticking some damage on the guard during the early turns while the slow moving greenskins were getting closer. Never leave home without some!

In general the list was good fun to play with. I'd imagine it might be a bit more comfortable against lists without so many TKd3 weapons....! I want to try out some more of the options available, but thats for another day.
I suspect we'll start to seem some 'cookie cutter' lists appear due to the relatively small number of options, esp at 3k - but that's the joys of playtesting....

Cheers

Thanks for the report!

I would note that I don't think I've ever seen an army containing an artillery company convincingly win a game at 3k. It's just too many eggs in one basket, especially with another 700pt formation (tank co. Also not a brilliant formation) in the army.

Thanks for the report. I would have expected the IG to do much better with their list. Were the artillery company firing BP or AT in the game?

2) Better to add Ogryns and make one "Fearless" with a Commissar than add a Hydra if Arty is going to be BTS, I'd then keep a Hydra Battery on OW next door which can then march for objectives T3 if not required.

Also, don't take an Arty Co. and a Tank Co. at the same time, as they're both 700pts, and you'll end up with too few activations for the rest of your army IMO.

Agreed. Has to be said it's only Furgie third game and he wanted to max out on Shadowswords as opposed to Arty batteries.

That said, if he hadn't put the hydra in the formation, I would have struggled to get BTS and the Blitz as it's a dam sight harder to take down all those Russ!

I find Russ Co's to be one of the easier ~700pt BTS formations to take down and consider them slightly underpowered. Something like a Reaver Titan is much harder to kill IMO. YMMV.
