....do you play?

I play Warhammer Fantasy, Epic, and Kings of War (which is rapidly edging out WFB....)

am I unusual in only playing a couple of systems? (I'm also into a few boardgames, Axis and Allies, Risk etc)

Mainly just Epic for me these days. Though I do also have the Space Hulk, the previous edition of Talisman, a little bit of Blood Bowl and the occasional game of Risk or Poker.

I have a 40k and Fantasy Armies collecting dust. I still play Epic, BFG and now getting into FoW. My crew are hardcore Catan-ers, I love Axis and Allies if I ever get anyone to play with me and most boardgames. Grew gaming with friends and family. We use to have game night all the time back in the HS/early college days. Mmmm Endless Taco Bell, Mt Dew and enough board and card games that made it hard to close the walk in hall closet.

Wargame Week: Epic, Full Thrust, Malifaux, WHFB, Warmaster + some home grown games Morgan has made up

Boardgame Week: Just about all Fantasy Flight Games + a few others with good boardgame geek ratings

Card Games: Just about any we can find at present. VTES, Magic and recently Game of Thrones will be played in the short term. If I get them together, I will add x-files, Kult, Mythos and Middle Earth CCg to that list

Too many games to play and so little time.....

@Frogbear

do you find it harder to reach a consensus with your group as to what to play? or do you set a schedule so everyone gets to play their favourite?

@GlynG

I have a copy of the new space hulk gathering dust on my shelf, not even de-sprued the terminators and genestealers yet..... I won't sell it because I adored the original game, but I have nobody to play it with, barring the wife, and somehow I don't think she'd take it seriously.....

Epic, 40k, Infinity are the main ones. I also have no small investment in Necromunda, I've two editions worth of Space Hulk, I used to play WHFB but I've basically quit it with the edition change. Likewise, I have a pretty huge collection of warmachine and hordes that are now accumulating dust. I've also looked into (which is to say, purchased) Firestorm Armada and Malifaux, but havent really kicked them into gear. I had some Urban War back in the day.

Good question. We just recently finished a calendar (for the boardgames week) and that worked pretty well to set up a range of games well ahead of time so as we got the rules read and they were ready for the guys on that night. In effect we set up games for 3-4 players and another for 4+ players. That way we always had the night covered. Recently however we just organise it one or two weeks ahead of time. I would like to get the calendar working again however

As for Wargames, that is a little more chaotic. Probably decided 1 week to as little as 2 hours before the night gets started and with who shows up. Wargames have really taken a dive recently since the days of Epic games and Blood Bowl leagues, however WHFB has started to get the numbers going from 2 to as much as 6 if we are lucky.

If I am able to organise a leave pass, we can usually get about 4-5 guys together for a Chaos in the Old World or Arkham Asylum boardgame game. Otherwise, I may just campaign for a beer + pretzels night and break out Talisman to the groan of many of the guys :D

that sounds like a decent system, my group is pretty fragmented at the moment, one guy is over in LA, one guy has pretty much quit the hobby, one guy is out of work and has zero cash and the other 3 of us are all parents with toddlers to look after......

We used to solely play WFB (from 4th-7th edition) with occasional monopoly to take a break.... I bought Zombies!! along, but then everybody got addicted to it and ruined any semblance of fun by overplaying it.... I got axis and allies as I wanted something a bit more in-depth than risk, but it's really split opnions, 2 of the guys HATE it and won't try to learn how to play it well, and it's the kind of game that takes a while to get into....

the LA guy ONLY wants to play GW wargames, he said he'd give Epic a shot next time he's in my neck of the woods, but he's not interested in kings of war or anything else....

Epic, BFG, some 40k. I'll probably be adding Battletech to that shortly.

How is BFG? I played a lot of spacefleet back in the day (mostly against myself.... the billy-no-mates that I am) and I love my spaceships!

is it quick and cheap to get a fleet up and running?

Well, technically I have the stuff and knowledge such that I could play Heavy Gear, Heavy Gear Fleet Scale, Lightning Strike, Epic: Armageddon, 40K, Warmaster, BFG, and Battletech.

What do I actually play? Epic's what I've probably played most of lately, but even that's a little irregular. Hopefully I'll be able to encourage a some kind of regular player group at some point.

I get to play boardgames somewhat more often, and probably have played the most of Space Hulk, Age of Conan, and Scarab Lords (at least lately).

I just play Epic Armageddon these days. But I used to play WHFB and FoW very often.

It seems insteresting how I started with 6mm, later 28mm wargames, then I switched to 15mm, and finally back to 6mm (IMHO the best scale for real wargames).

EA, WM, Starmada AE, and Dystopian Wars just recently are what I generally play.

The lady and I are big into Race for the Galaxy, Carcasonne and Hive though.

Depends on the period/genre, really.

Epic, Hordes, Mordheim, Gorkamorka are the common ones. Then Blackpowder, Impetus, Songs of Drums and Shakos, Sharpe Practice, and so forth. Impetus, for instance, can cover a lot of different periods, which is one reason that I love it.

Cheap and Fairly decent would be all plastic Imperial Cruisers. For $20 you get 2 ships that can be built into any Cruiser or Battle Cruiser. So for 4 Cruiser you get roughly 1000 points depending on class and upgrades. Standard game between 1500-2000 points. So that's $80.00 for a Tournament Fleet that can actually win, lol. Granted some folks like Escorts and Battleships and they can be a bit pricer cuz there metal. But still reasonable, $35 for a Battleships which is 350-400 points and pack of Escorts would be anywhere from 100-150 points. Either way I feel BFG is by far the cheapest GW game to get into.
