Thanks you guys
I never did flying bases before
but since I painted my Squat flying bases
there is no reason not to do the Tau ones :P
Once I finished the Army I will paint the bases and do some groupshots

Hey Ulric - Nice realistic paint scheme on the Tau. The fine textured finish gives a nice scale and dirty/dusty feel to the models. Can you let me know what paints you're using ? (i have some desert IG in mind and need to buy some paint.)

Some terrain on those bases would be great. Don't know why those clear bases always distract from the model - must get round to doing mine one day.

The Orca is great. Very realistic.

I actually prefer clear bases on skimmers and flyers so I think they look fine as is (but as Legion4 says - do what works for you).
looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks guys

Hi Blip,
I am using GW colors only
but will give Vallejo a try soon

the colorsheme is:
basecoat black(please use soap on all FW models I forgot it and paid for it)
upper part: desert yellow>heavy drybrush with desert yellow&white
lower part: codex grey>heavy drybrush with fortress grey>drybrush with space wolfes grey
a light dry brush with white for the whole model

metal parts:
boltgunmetal highlighted with chainmail
red parts(engienes&weapons):
blood red highlighted with blood red&white

give the whole model a wash with
watered down black wash(at least 1:1, 2 parts water would be better)

you can give the metal parts an additional wash with normal black wash
to make them darker and give them more contrast to the grey belly

I did my Squat flying bases
but not the Tau ones
I am not sure if I will redone them
since I would have about 130 stands to do

cheers

ulric

Thanks Ulric. I'm deciding what to do myself re: GW vs Vallejo - i have a lot gaps in my range due to drying out over the years (currently been borrowing a bunch from a very kind friend.) Always used to use GW but the more muted colours of the Vallejo "Model Colour" range are attracting me - particularly for Epic.

Just not sure about having to mail order everything without seeing it (down here really is the end of the world - not an alternative model shop for 40 miles in any direction since GW bought out the locally owned shop... :-( I know that won't sound far for the Aussies and Americans - just try £6 a Gallon !

This log and the good work of a certain werewolf are causing me to lean towards Tau as my next army. Great work!

Quick question about the Orcas though, it looks like you can rotate the engines is this by design or something you've done yourself?

I really like the basework on those. Shows how brave those aliens are, hiding in the bushes. :P :)

Great stuff!

It's called "camo, cover & concealment" ... Those aliens are not only brave but very good at fieldcraft ... ;)

Its the 40th millenia, there must be at least 50 other ways to find out where they are other than looking for them. :D
