What is Cherry picking? Last time I looked it was what you did you to young inexperienced girls at night clubs?!? :S
As for combined SM and IG, I used them in this battle report with great success, it was the traditional IG arty company and SM army. Battle of Baena IV
We had a rule that you could only use 25% of your force as allies and that titans counted as allies unless you fielded a titan legion. It is VERY balancing as it is a choice of Titan or Arty company.... tough call.
In the other battle report where I took a pure chaos army with it's chaos reaver, the reaver performed far more successfully than the arty company which gave me room to consider taking titans more often... Death on Rannus VII

Hi!
The old off table SM1 barrages were great. I cant remember if they were re-introduced to net epic, although I used them in Heresy.

Guys, All the SM1 Off-Board Support was great ! Barrages, Haywire, Vortex, etc., we still use them ! Your technique is a good one for using allies, Tom. And that should work with any rule system.

Hi!
It was cheesy though when you started using titans with the "relay" ability though.....

Relay rule was weak ... we never used it in it's out-of-the-book form and dropped it, IIRC !
