Ghudra,
Think this will look great on orky titanz etc, its the same stuff restoration proffenials use on paintings and plates to blend in new repairs etc, Its great to see you adding detail like that, keep up the good work,

Regards epic

A product like this.

No. Actually, it's a product like this:

I've worked with more "crackle" paints, mediums, techniques, & craft applications than I care to remember, but they never had the right effect. Most of your craft store stuff doesn't play out well at all for miniatures & getting a consistent result is one of the biggest obstacles.

Ranger's Distress Crackle paint line is dead on & it is the first crackle paint I've found that works well with multiple scales. The best part is that you can actually chip out the flakes like you would with the now infamous "hairspray" technique.

I stand corrected, and am glad I didn't have to do the research myself.

Why infamous? I understand IA: Masterclass popularized the hairspray technique, but have there been widespread issues with it's use?

Pardon the sarcastic jab SG. >:D Perhaps I've seen too many things hairsprayed since the FW book came out. It's like 80's hair all over again.

Gargant panel that was lightly undercoated, painted, toothbrushed, & given some other weathering hoo-ha:

With less extreme processing on the rest of the model, it could look pretty solid.

No problem, I thought FW published the technique and people's models started melting from it or something.

OTOH, if GW/FW published it, it must be The Word and The Truth, right? It practically makes it law to use whenever you can, instead of just whenever it's appropriate...

The Orks (still) beckon me.

I got sucked into a partial basecoat on the Slasha, but that beast needs serious conversion help on the shoulders, back, & front before it can be fully painted. Metal fat boy with narrow shoulders just doesn't seem right for Gargants anymore.

Did some more p-card renovating on the Stompsmasha. I'll use some putty washes to smooth things out between the card - plasticard joins. Getting this sucker finished right is a priority for 2011. ;D

Give him some beefy loose shoulder pads, similar to the 40k deff dred.

The weathering is unbelievable, I guess that is why I fail. :D

Fantastic work as usual! Is the crackling effect hard or simple to do? I might pick me up some of that stuff, could be good for Nurgle models and the like.

Glyn, it takes a bit of practice, but it is MUCH easier than most crackle methods/paints to use.

The paint itself is very viscous & how much you thin it combined with how thick a coat you put on determines your result. You can also get variations of cracked or even peeling paint depending on the basecoat used.

For what I've shown, I used a 60/40 paint/water mix and hit it with an sepia ink/Future blend to retard peeling and bring out the cracks.

I'm not done playing with it, but it is also amazing for making cracked mud looking bases. ;D

With EpiComp wrapped up, I figured it would be a fine time to wheel out some WiP pics. :)

This is a Supa-Stompa I built around the shell of an old Mekboy Gargant. Mostly p-card, GS, & some other random Orky bitz were used to form up the important parts. I tried hard to make it look a wee bit more dangerous than SG model. As with all walkers, the feet were the hardest part.

Here's a few of the finished pics. I'll likely add in some glyphs and fix the basing a bit as it seems too plain.

The tesla lightning thing was an afterthought, but it was fun to do. Future projects will likely use a few different gauges of wire for a better effect.
