Split the void spinners into singles. It gives you another activation and if one dies (and they will be targeted early and often) the other can still fire.

Just about the only EoV that is better in pairs are cobras.

For my money, I'd drop both support weapons choice from the Guardian fms and get fill up on Exacrchs for all your Aspect fms. You should take every opportunity to take Exarchs IMO.

I'd advise 2 x Firestorms in your Falcon fms too. It makes them pretty damned awesome (Even the extended AP range is worth it, disregarding the extra AA which is brutally good).

You see I w s adivsed to pair up the Voidpsinners, 6 BP is nice! Also I used one as a single in a previous game and was underwhelmed tbh...

I have 3 Firestorms, so probably will run one set of falcons with 1, the other falcons with 2.

6 BP with dirsput just puts a really big kill first, quickly sticker all over them! But as ever your experience may differ.

The Void Spinners serve as a nice BTS goal, however, forcing your opponent to committing resources to your backfield while you move up to 'greet' him. I played 2 Void Spinners in my last tournament and failed to lose any games at all.
Eldar vs Eldar
Eldar vs Eldar again
Eldar vs Chaos
Eldar vs Tyranids

On the Void Spinners, I would suggest keeping them as two singles for the extra activation. Firing them as a pair has exactly the same effect as firing two singles at a single target (as you get the extra BM for 6BM). Moreover splitting them means that between them they can cover the entire table.

War Walkers can be tricky to use well, but as Mosc says, they are really effective against Leman Russ - and if you can arrange for them to shoot in cross fire as well . . . .

Shining Spears got minced, Falcons were MVP, avatar was MEGAfail....

I'll do a better write up tomorrow.

Wait a minute!

Ginger are you saying that if I had two separate formations of 1 Void Spinner each and they fired at the same enemy formation, I would receive 3 BP for the first shooting action, then I would get 6 BP for the second shooting action?

So firing on the same enemy formation with multiple formations that use BP actually escalates the BP?

I think what Ginger meant was that 2x 3BP yields as much potential damage as 1x 6BP - it's either 2x (1 template + 1 BM) or 1 (2 templates + 2 BM).

While that is true, I've found that dropping two templates at once is sometimes better than dropping two singles - it's easier to hit multiple formations, who then each get the extra BMs. Whether that is worth the loss of an activation is of course debatable - given the choice I think I'd go with the extra formation, too.

That extra activation is also contingent on how many activations you are going to have. Going from 11 to 10 activations isn't terrible at all. Going from 9 to 8 activations is going to hurt.

The final consideration is that Eldar tend to do better with more activations. I tend to find any pair of Eldar SHT vulnerable to shooting and assaults; so they make quite a brittle BTS. But if you use some other formation as the BTS (Eg Aspects in Wave Serpents with 2x Exarchs - 550pts) and perhaps a third for your Supreme commander (Aspects with Exarch and Autarch - 400pts) you have already used almost half your army points on three formations - more if you go with a titan.

I tend to work on 10+ formations as a minimum for Eldar to prevent them being out-activated and being caught flat-footed. But the above approach means you have only 1550 pts for 7 formations which can just about be done, but will make the remaining formations brittle too.

I had some question on Windriders I was hoping this thread might help me with but having read through it again it hasn’t helped. I have an army I want to paint up and use as Saim-hann primarily, but one that can also count as Biel-tann or other craftworlds occasionally. I’m trying to work out what models I keep and what get sold in ye big sell-off.

What proportion of Vypers to Jetbikes in a formation is optimum and why? Are there good uses to both mono and mixed formations? Is it different for Biel-tann 6 strong formations compared to Saim-hann 9 strong ones? Lastly is ever worth it to upgrade a Saim-hann Windeider Host with an additional 3 jetbikes?

Personally in Biel Tan I use 1 Vyper to each Jet-bike formation, merely to lay BMs as needed. This becomes more important as the ratio of jet-bikes to other formations increases as you need a means of prepping targets. Otherwise, Jetbikes on their own are Ok (but better before the changes to nerf the armour save sniff! :()

Mono Jetbikes are far superior to Mono Vypers, because the Vypers shooting and FF is still poor, which the 'better' armour save does not compensate IMHO. They also work really well in conjunction with Guardians in Wave Serpents (using the Farseer 'Commander' to set up some monster attacks if needed)

I have not played with Saim-hann per se, but suspect that one or two Vypers will fulfill the same function in the 9x strong formations, just like heavy weapons do in the Guardian formations. The main point (and difference) between the Saim-hann Bikes and the Biel Tan Guardians is that they have both a reasonable armour save and built in mobility - which was why the armour nerf was applied in the first place.

I cannot answer the question about the upgrade - suck it and see :)

Can anyone give me some tips on how to use a phantom titan with pulsars? Better to sustain from range, or double (move, shoot, move) (move move shoot) (shoot move move)? Or use it to shoot for the first couple of turns then assault?

On the same theme, what do people think of the older weapon options? Like the Heat Lance, D Cannon, Tremor Cannon etc? I have 2 phantoms, 1 titan pulsar, 2 heat lances and 1 D Cannon and would like some tips on how to assemble them etc. Also are they balanced (the stats in swordwind), which is the better / worse etc.

If you are going to use a phantom with 2 pulsars (and I wouldn't normally, but after facing several Ulani tank armies over the weekend I might consider one now) I would sit it behind some terrain that it can walk around or through, but blocks line of sight to it and move, shoot and move back again.
