Nice work BH :)
And no, I will not waive my pledge to build as many models as there are entries in Epicomp (besides the dog donation) :)

Incidentally, I definitely have to remark that voting will be hell this year - the competition is really strong. But not strong enough to prevent me from entering (delusion of grandeur mode ON!) ;)

Hi all,
time up - the deadline is past, no more entries please. Once I go through the entries and categorize them CS will see to preparing the gallery - followed by voting of course.
Thanks to everyone who sent in entries. I've already said this - voting will NOT be easy. :)

Right, here's the news on Epicomp:

30 entries, spread across the 4 categories:
Single model: 8
War engine: 10
Battleforce: 6
Open: 6
Highest number of entries by one person: 10!

This means I owe the Island Dog Sanctuary 30 Euros, and that I have to build a Titan Legion (and friends) force of 30 models by the 7th of December 2011.

Thanks to all who entered - still have to allocate the prizes to the respective categories.

I'm sorry but I failed horribly to enter. Whip me.

I'd like to see some feedback though why we see so few entries compared to previous years.

eh... those 10 were probably me. Honestly, it was more to boost numbers than anything. I'd only planned on entering one thing in each category this year and even then I almost forgot to do it.

If I had to guess it might be related to the output on the forums. I've not seen a whole lot from Onyx or WM Nice and some of those who painted already admitted to forgetting to enter. Outside of that there's been a few regular logs with folks like CaptPiet, Dave, Ghost, Ulric, Scream and L4. If you consider there are probably only 10 or so actively painting on the forums and little epic painting activity elsewhere you can see how there might not be that many entries.

Despite good intentions I've painted nothing in the last year, epic fail :-[

Looking forward to seeing what you've all painted up!

I wasn't going to enter this year (mainly due to having been successful in 3 categories over the last 2 years) but when the call went out for more pictures, I sent a few in.

I'm looking forward to seeing all the Epic goodness!

If you look back at past year's entries...
2003 = 84 entries
2004 = 57 entries
2005 = 55 entries
2006 = 82 entries
2007 = 102 entries
2008 = 80 entries
2009 = 47 entries
2010 = 30 entries
...it matches up somewhat with a graph of the world's true GDP for the same period. ::)

Honestly though, if half of what has landed in the TOEG & 6mm forums since the opening of EpiComp was entered, we would have topped all other years. From previous posts, it sounds mostly like folks are just not aware of the comp. Maybe some announcements in the EA general & EA Tournaments forums would help get the word out.

If the "suprise!" aspect of anon entries is too burdensome, then drop it for 2011 and see what happens.

Im surprised how few entires there are given given the large number of logs started for this years TOEG. It should have given a lot of people something to enter, even if not enough for a battleforce. Having said that, i deliberately only submitted max 1 entry per category this year, rather than multiple like last year.

A shame there hasn't been more entries this year, but I think visibility is the key issue here.
I'm sure other factors play in as well, but as mentioned earlier I do think a constant flow of pictueres of beautifully painted miniatures keeps the competition top of mind on the forum. At least I know from my own use of the forum that I'm more inclined to visit threads where I know there's usually lots of nice piccies rather than ones with the occational text update. If you know there won't be any picture updates anyway I know I am less inclined to visit the EpiComp boards untill the voting starts. Of course this conflicts with the whole concept of anonymous voting and keeping everything under wraps untill the voting, but it is still my belief that it was an unnecessary complication of the competition in the first place (though I'm sure others would disagree ;) )

Again, I'm sure other factors play in as well.
My own output this year has been very low and mostly limited to comission work for EW and a few individual pieces for NetEpic Gold, so for the second year I'm afraid I won't be entering the comp either.

Thing is it is very rarely anonymous anyway, many of the entires will have been shown in the 6mm/TOEG sections already. Even when they have not been, many of the 'high profile' painters such as yourself, Vaaish, Onyx etc have recognisable styles anyway – if i was presented with three new, but typical, images from the three just mentioned i think i could distinguish them fairly easily. That aside, i think that it is good to have the end gallery anonymous during voting, but i don't think people should see this as a problem. The rules only bar minis that have alreayd been shown in competitions that year, rather than specifying that the image must never have been seen on the internet before :D
