E&C,

Given it is a 0.2 version, don't you think you are being too hasty in casting judgment? If I listened to comments like that the Dark Eldar army would have never seen the light of day. Today it is stands as the first 'Approved' NetEA non-core list.

Your comments seem almost accusatory that we're somehow trying to co-opt the Tyranid list and that simply isn't true. The goal is to have a variant list.

A variant list works with the same basic rules, and adds a special rule here and there, and changes up the unit composition or force structure a bit... it doesn't re-write all the special rules and keep 95% of the units.

Currently, your stated intent (Variant list) does not match the output (Replacement list in direct competition with the NetEA list).

Chroma is quite capable of delivering to you a suitable generic Tyranid list that doesn't muddy the waters, or if he continues not to have time to work on the Tyranid list (As he hasn't for a year or so now), handing off the Championship to someone who is going to put in the hard work.

just to chime in with something only slightly relevant - monkeys and humans are 98%+ the same, genetically, but look how different we are. For a start, we're not allowed to sniff each others bottoms.

not to be combative E&C, but the fact that the NetEA nid list is a 9.2.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1 or whatever and still unfinished almost predisposes the community (Mosc and Dave) to say "screw it, we can't wait, so lets do what we think will work". If Mosc waited for Chroma to either finish it or find someone and wait for them to finish it, he'll probably be in a nursing home drooling into his tea, let alone sticking to his fairly tight publishing schedule.

In Dave's defense, he is at the very least a committed chap, who gets a lot of games in and will follow it through to the end. The end might not be something you like, but it will at least be finished.

Right, then call for the Champion to buck up his ideas or be replaced. A champion who is too busy / can't be bothered / doesn't play epic anymore / is actually a chimpanzee witha computer*** is a detriment to the whole community.


***AFAIK this is the only one that hasn't actually happened... yet.

the also don't have the chop up millions of your fellow countrymen with hatchets ability, though that's probably more due to them not having hatchets (note to self, don't go arming monkeys)

I think we're going to have to agree to disagree here. You've obviously got a bee in your bonnet today and there is no convincing you otherwise that there isn't some conspiracy to replace the Tyranid list. Fine. You found us out! It's a replacement. We're going to replace AMTL next. ;D

Here is what I asked Dave to perform from the outset:
1. First Contact list. I gave him a list of units provided by Zombocom that would best represent a first contact list.
2. Phase III list. I wanted as close to a Phase III list as we could get, with the understanding that some things (like dropping) may not be achievable within the tournament rules.
3. Streamlined list. I asked that he streamline the list as much as possible so that a beginning Epic player could pick up the list and run with it. I explained that many new Epic players have found the Tyranid list confusing to start with. Heck a lot of experienced players do as well. If there was a way make it easier to play, he should consider it.

If we're wasting time reinventing the wheel, it is our time to waste. You can look back and say, "I told you so!!" while giving us the finger (or, I suppose in your case, two fingers).

And if anyone is thinking the same paranoid thoughts, I have been after Chroma for the better part of two years to get Phase III going. The problem is he is way too spread out and I'm not going to wait on him. We've included him and Jaldon in all our email correspondences so it's not like we're doing something he isn't aware of. The fact that neither Jaldon nor Chroma have complained about Onachus should tell you that they have no grand concern over this effort. If they don't, neither should anyone else.

Uhmmm... Chimps are apes. Monkeys have tails. And monkeys can be very mean spirited as well. A buddy of mine complained that, while on a march, he and some fellow soldiers threw some food to feed the monkeys nearby. The monkeys took the gesture as an affront and spent the next hour of their road march flinging poo at them.

Have to say I prefer the 'ork' style selection options for nids. As you say testing is required but when you can have a list with 10 independent WE's, that can teleport* then I begin to whiff fromage!

*I know burrow, but it's the same thing but better!

yeah yeah Mr. Taxonomist! I'm not going to let a few facts stand in the way of a slightly pointless analogy.

Other monkey related stories - don't ever stop your car next to monkeys in one of those safari park things. They look cute until they climb on your car and start pulling things off of it (including the windscreen washer things with their teeth). I swear they're in cahoots with the park owners cum car parts salesmen in disguise.

He's busy! I mentioned in a PM that Chroma is way too spread thin. To give you some perspective, he and I were talking about the Phase III list and the Xenos project in 2008 and it is nearly 2011. I'm not sure how we are p!ssing on anyone else's fire hydrant when the AC has had two years to address the Phase III list, flat out ignored it, and then we publicly put everything out here on the forum while CCing him (and Jaldon) on every email.

I asked Chroma from the start to be involved but we've got to move on and assume that he'll chime in when he's ready.
