Hi all,

After doing a couple of greenstuff scratchbuilds and finding out how difficult it is to stop the greenstuff or milliput from deforming as you are proding and manipulating the minature, Im trying a new way.

Very simple idea to make your own personal sculps, Basically make your green stuff into a cylinder or block shape and leave it to dry until its rock hard, then scale up the size of the minature you want to produce either using a fine black marker pen or small cuts showing where the body parts start and stop.

Then using a very sharp craft knife start cutting! the green stuff very easily when hard and good shapes and contrast can be acheived also as your carving there is no rush like when you use the greenstuff normally. so you can do a little bit every now and again.

The picture shows two bits of greenstuff one was a starting point and the other is a head and torso, picture does not show that much detail but its there, you can either do the minature in one piece if you very skilled with a craft knife or in bits i.e legs, head and torso arms etc then superglue together.

As ther eis so many conversions that go on in this forum im pretty sure there are some budding and very skilled chaps on here that could come up with some great little minis..... So if anybodys interested post them up here!

Yep, also you can use sprue for the same job, cheaper than GS and does not need to cure first. Easy to shape with a knife, rifflers and burins.

Well, we all have green stuff left over when we're converting. Good to know I don't need to throw it away when it hardens. Thanks!

Milliput or a mix of milliput and greenstuff would probably be easier to work with since it has a less rubbery consitence than greenstuff. Drassanar made some amazing 6mm sculpts by carving miliput that way.

Cheers for the advice, will try mixing some green with milliput and see how it goes, will also have a search of Drassanars posts to have look at what he came up with,

try milliput superfine (or was it ultrafine?) if you can - I use that mixed with greenstuff for press molds and it's fantastically carveable when it dries, without being rubbery (GS) or brittle (milliput).

that's the one - I got mine from fleabay too as there isn't a US distributor that I could find.

It's harder to work than GS and hardens quicker, though I'm guessing that's not such an issue in your case :)

Magic Sculpt is dead-on similar to Milliput (even smells the same) & can be found all over the US. Cheap too. ;)
