Quote (primarch @ 11 2003 Dec.,01:04) | Hi!
It seems from that thread that people dont expect much from the change. The sentiment I agree most with is that given GW restrictions on the magazine, such as no non-GW games, advertisements to push the latest GW mini, etc, not even the best editor in the world can make it better than what it is...
...a over glorified catalogue.
Primarch | Hi all, given that WD is a 'house' magazine (the house of GW), I would grant the nonpresence of rival products, and the odd advert. Problems I see are: 1 - far too many ads - although to be fair, if you were to remova all ads you would still have a thickish magazine 2 - I'd personaly eliminate the LOTR section from the back and relocate it spread throughout the WD - it's too much the bit that non-LOTR players skip this way, making it an appendix rather than part of WD; then again, I guess the copyright ruegs may make this seclusion necessary. 3 - battle reports need to be improved (although the current style is better than the battle narration style which was fun, but didn't depict the battle too clearly) 4 - the trend to include more rules some issues back has diminished - this was, I believe, a strong point in WD; and non-tournament rules are ok too. 5 - Fluff needs to be a bit boosted in quality. 6 - modelling articles are generaly ok, but slightly too heavy terain-building - although this is one thing I'd like to see more of in Malta, so I shouldn't grumble. 7 - more support of Specialist games, rather than just Jervis' page and the odd battle report or article. Whilst these games are not mainstream, their players deserve a bit of WD help, whilst this in turn could promote the games themselves. I don't need to see an article for each of Epic,BFG,Warmaster, Inquisitor, Mordheim, Necromunda, Blood Bowl, Man'o'W - oops! - in each issue, but a couple of articles on any of these in each issue would improve matters - mind, not advertising articles, but dedicated (i.e. for e.g. Epic-scale fluff - legions not squads) fluff, scenarios, modelling stuff etc.
Anyways - that's just my thoughts and opines, of course. But I wouldn't condemn WD outright (must be the Christmas spirit seeping in) - and I still buy it regularly.
