Hey guys,

So I've recently been given a fairly large security case style thing a bit like this.

I think it used to contain tools or something but I reckon it'd be great as an army carry case. So now I'm curious to see how you guys transpirt your armies. I'm thinking making foam inserts would work the best but would be good to see what you guys have come up with for inspiration.

cheers

Here ois one I made for Bloodbowl.

You could do the same with Epic:

Those cases look tight! Any idea of manufacturer or cost? Im finding myself very unwisely transporting in cardboard boxes, but once my minis start seeing paint more consistently that will not suffice.

Interesting. These look really cool.

For my Blood Bowl teams, and generally for skirmish-level armies, I use a pistol case.
I know it sounds weird (and I was slightly uncomfortable buying it), but basically it's a plastic case already lined with foam, and it fits the bill perfectly. It was quite cheap (around £6) and it's quite small as well, so easy to transport around.

For epic armies, I'm considering getting a bigger one (there are models for 2 or more guns, which are bigger) or trying one of the KR foam trays for 6mm (http://www.kaiserrushforth.com/), to be put in their cardboard cases.

I looked at KR cases, my concern though is that they don't look like they'd offer much protection to my GW strip bases of infantry. Has anybody seen something that could be suitable for these? I guess the ideal would be a sheet of that pick and plug pre-cut stuff but with 10mm cubed sections.

What I plan on doing with the infantry problem is cut out sheet magnets for the bottoms of all my bases and have one layer of the carry case with a sheet metal bottom and just trust magnets to do the work. Its a while off but when I finally get around to it I will post pics.

I use my battle foam bags.  Their custom tray builder lets you arrange trays in any configuration.  nulltray builder

The trays are expensive, and shipping across the pond is pricey, but I figured it was worth it.

I had planned on doing this for a long while now. I just hate bringing 20 different containers for all my Epic stuff. I planned on using a tool box like I do with all of my 40k armies but thought better of it after finding something at Target.

Well a week or so a go I started my project. I bought pre-cut magnets from Litko. I order the strong ones but there not that strong but work for Epic and maybe plastic 40k guys, but not any of my old metal Termies. I then cut some metal sheets from Home Depot to fit my new containers from Target. Cocked the metal to the box and poof!

Second Battlefoam. The 1/2" x 1 1/2" slots hold 4 strip bases - 2 wide and two deep. Alternatively, they carry 3 tanks side-on, or two Hydras or Basilisks each. Due to my overabundance of GW hardcases (aren't they all?), I got the GW sized trays, 5x10 slots. I can carry 10 Tank/Superheavy Companies with Hydras and two Artillery Companies in the top tray, 5 big ol' Mech. Infantry Companies (Extra Platoon, Fire Support, Chimaeras for said) in the second, and various extras (Sentinels, STs, etc.) in the bottom tray. Plans are for the top two trays to carry something like 13k together.

How did you cut the steel sheets? What did you use?

I did the same damn thing :)

The case at the top I bought for $25 USD at Home Depot. I use it for my CCGs.

The magnetic case at the bottom is a $5 tray from Target and $1 sheet metal from the roofing department of Home Depot. Tin Snips trimmed it to size and Liquid Nails attached it perfectly.

I attempted to make multiple layers inside so as to not waste the vertical space, but solutions have failed me.

Yep I went with the Battlefoam 432 case. I cut the foam inserts so they stand vertical in the bag (the trays come standing on their side normally). I get 42 strip bases per tray or 32 2x2's plus some odd strip bases per 1" tray. So far I can get 4 armies in it :D

A possible solution? Get some wide steel rod segments of the appropriate height (maybe 1.5 inch long, 1" diameter) and glue a fairly strong disc magnet to the top. Then either glue them to the base, or a second set of disc magnets to the bottom. Probably want 6-12, depending on the size of the container. Then just cut out another section of sheet metal, and put on top. Try to get a relatively tight fit (to stop lateral motion), but don't forget to allow some ways to extract the top sheet (finger holes?) to get it out.
