Sounds like fun.
I'd also prefer the more open selection of army lists on both days though.

My 2p, I spend every game other than tournaments either teaching or playtesting something. Sometimes I just want to play the game, and pay for the privilege of doing so.

As Gavin's running this event the decision is his.

People have stated what the prefer, how strongly do people actually feel about this?

I'll come along to the Sunday regardless, but having just played at Winter Warmer (Experimental lists playing scenarios) it'd be cool to play something a little different (Experimental lists under tournament conditions) for day 2. But as I said, I'd come along regardless as "Experimental lists playing scenarios" was still a blast in Bristol.

Day 1 can be yer bog standard EPICUK tournament day regardless, of course.

I'm also happy to lend armies out

Personally it's not not having an official army to use that would put me off playing another official Epic-UK list only tournament and kind offers to borrow one again would pull me in. I'd just be much more interested and enthusiastic about attending a tournament with the more expanded selection of armies than just the Epic-UK ones and that I'd go from maybe attending to virtually definitely attending if that were the case.

Playing the tournament scenario with expanded lists does sound possibly more beneficial for playtesting and also being more of a compromise and mixed mid-ground for people than testing both expanded lists and scenarios at once (I've played my Vraksian list in five games now but unusually not one yet has been the tournament scenario and I'm quite curious to see how they perform at one).

Completely up to Gavin and whatever he fancies running really, I appreciate people have different wants and nothing is likely to be please everyone, but Winter Warmer showed there are a good crowd interested in attending a wider less restrictive tournament if he does go that way.

I am more than happy to discuss and change the format if that is what people want.

The original idea behind the London event was to provide a different venue for the UK tournament scene, making this excellent tournament / championship available to a wider audience. To that end, the aim of the UK 'tournament scene' is an extension of the E:A rulebook, providing a known, stable and friendly environment that anyone can enter irrespective of their experience of Epic.

I would venture to suggest that using "experimental" armies or 'playtesting the scenarios' may possibly be a little off-putting to some people especially newbies, some armies and scenarios are far from stable or balanced. Indeed there were a number of experienced Epic players that were more than a little confused in Bristol, but then it was intended to be different and not to conform to the 'tournament' style, so in a way that added to the enjoyment.

Logistically, London is relatively easy to get to, but expensive for accomodation and room hire. So far we have been able to use the upstairs room of a well placed pub for little cost, but it is quite restricted (or cosy). Personally I prefer two day competitions for the continuity provided, but few seem willing or able to stay overnight in London - so we end up with two single days. So the suggestion is to hold different events on each day, (though I guess we could do the same thing on both days).

I would only be interested in entering the tournament if it was EPIC UK army lists only.

Do whatever you like on the Sunday

I agree, and think it's important that Day 1 be a standard EPICUK type event (EPICUK lists and the Tournament Scenario).

It's only Day2 that I'd like to see change in format, from "experimental lists and experimental scenarios" to "experimental lists and the tournament scenario" (which I believe has not been done at a UK event for 3+ years at this point).

I agree with this if only to get more feedback on the developing lists, heck even if only 4-6 players enter it would be useful.

If I can make it to London again this year and can stay for the Sunday I'd like this to happen.

It doesn't have to be the only thing happening on the Sunday,as I've posted in the MANSFIELD* Full Scale Assault thread,we could have a mini tournament go ahead whilst others play scenarios if they prefer.

* Matt thinks we're all mind readers and as he knows where the event is we all do, crikey he may eventually get round to doing a rules pack if we keep pushing him  :p

I would say this would be my prefered option and I would certainly stay for both days if this was the format, I would like to try out Tau again in a tournament setting. But I probably need the draw of the epic UK tournament to get me to London in the first instance.

That sounds good to me - maybe as an extension of that, where possible, either people could bring an experimental+a non experimental list on the Sunday or half could bring each
