So who did win the convertification category?

Right on cue.

But first a word about judging.
The conversion competition is judged by three persons from Tac Comms who have been around awhile, and are considered to be old fa-  - er - mature, responsible, authoritative, reliable, objective persons of some experience. We exclude entries that have already won a category - otherwise Polaris and the Yella Submarine, to name but two, would have been in the running. And then the judges each pick three entries, in order of preference, and then in a flurry of PMs argue who is to get the pole position.

This year the judges were:
Warmaster Nice - since he did not enter the competition this year we thought he would be a grand judge for this event.
Blackhorizon - the man behind Gothicomp, and thus well versed in judgement. By his own admission less experienced in Epic, which makes him a perfect foil to Warmaster Nice as he has an outsider's point of view tempered by having seen loads of competition models in Gothicomp.
Myself - I entered one model this year, which was not a conversion, so I treated myself to the job. And this means you get a judge who tends to go for odd stuff, which should have made matters interesting.

And yet, in spite of the perceived and expected divergence in forming opinions, we all picked the same first!

Ah yes, I forgot to mention the winner....

Ad-Mech Forge Knight in Single Model Category - Heat Two, constructed by GlynG.
:sign1:

The reasons: it uses an existing model and changes it to something mentioned in the murky background of 40k, giving is not only a most appropriate appearance but achieving this with the addition of several bits of delicate nature, Ad Mechemblems, a very Ad Mech head etc etc.
Anyway - grand job!  :sign1:

And NOW Epicomp09 is CLOSED

Grats GlynG :D :D :D

A very well deserved winner indeed. It really captures the essence of what the AdMech is all about IMO...and also how I imagine Vanvlak looks in real life.

If I could get hold of enough of the servo arms without killing my credit card at Forge World I'd be very tempted to attempt this conversion on a squadron for my own AdMech army.

Woop woop! Very happy my model was chosen (unanimously too) :grinning:

Here's a higher resolution shot:

I'll post-up some different angles shots of Knighty my Forge Knight, once I've finished him off properly and I've gone over and re-done a few areas. I've got a bit distracted with models right the other of the scale recently, in the forms of a few test stands of Feral Orks.

Thanks WMN! It is a cool conversion but not a cheap one in money terms; there are parts of 4 different Forge World kits in there (Krieg Quartermaster, Servo Skulls, Techmarine and Xenos Disection Table). I have more FW bits left over and will, in time, be modelling up an entire unit of these (though don't expect anything too soon; I'm a very slow and easily distractable painter).

Grats Glyn!

I love that conversion and you really put together an excellent model with lots of detail. :agree:  You really nailed the Ad Mech "feel" that you get from the art in the Horus Heresy book and elsewhere.

Congratulations, GlynG. A worthy winner and a fantastic model. When it comes to conversions of this kind, price (number of FW kits) is of little concern.

What's happening with prizes for this after? Should I be shipping my Land Raiders off to whoever's won them?

...care to remind me who that was?

I forget which category you'd put them to and couldn't seem to find that info after a brief browse through the threads, so thought I'd just ask.
