Landspeeders can't ride in a THawk or use cover which is why it's ok they have more firepower. Plus now compare Attack Bikes  to Devs.... I'll be taking the cheaper, faster and more numerous Attack Bikes thanks!

Do people feel just making Attack Bikes "2 slot" mounted infantry is not enough of a boost?

Edit: Plus attack bikes are added to regular bikes which are superb already without the ability to lay BMs

Depends on how much you want to cost the Attack Bikes (they're supposed to be an [U]upgrade after all[I])

What surcharge would you give em Rug? (With comparisons to devs in mind of course)

EditL BTW, I do think your 'frag the rules' idea is quite reasonable.

2 HBs would increase the unit's FF also, not just add on an 'irrelevant' extra gun, making it a kind of devestator on wheels.

As tempting as that is, it's also rather radical

But would that be a good thing? I mean it could start to displace the infantry on Thawks even more.

If one assumed we where going to have the 'proposed' 'devestators on wheels', then yes, we'd want to discuss negative knock on effects.

Two standard ways to mitigate this is to either, increase the cost (such a unit would presumably be quite expensive) or limit the numbers (may upgrade one bike unit)

If you were going to increase the FF rating as well then I'd support "+x points per model upgraded" or similar.

Well I've never used attack bikes and never missed them (in case someone needs more datapoints).

Granted, I don't have a single model but I have never stopped and said "I wish I had some attack bikes for this very situation".

It's kind of funny, because while multimelta attack bikes are all en vogue in 40k, nobody has cared about heavy bolter attack bikes for a long, long time too.

And a pure AB formation will become unviable compared to LSs and we'll see even fewer ABs as Bike formation upgrades.


Do we really want Devs on wheels? Do we want to change ABs as radically as that (LV to inf, 1 HB to 2, increase ff, introduce points cost....)????

It has been suggested here that if one had this option, one would take the ABs rather than devestators, so they're actually quite attractive... depending on how you cost them

If we where looking at this afresh, we'd be very interested in the 2HB AB stand. From a fresh standpoint it's not radical, it's quite reasonable. If you're going to translate attack bikes from 40k into epic this is a good way to do it.

Nevertheless, we're in the position that we are now, and I fully appreciate the inertial effect. You're solution, Rug, at least fixes the problem with a minimum of work.

If not.... "2 slot" mounted inf with a Melta instead of HB... Then you would probably see 2 Bikes and 3 Attack Bikes with a Chaplain a lot in THawks.... too much! "3 slot" would balance better (ie only 1 AB if you want to THawk assault)

He he, off topic but can we have the melta dread too please?!

I noted earlier in this thread, I think that would probably balance the unit (well, almost, at any rate!). You'd have to drop the FF rating down to 5+, obviously.

But the model isn't armed with a Multi-Melta, you have to go digging through OOP Attack Bike blisters to find ones armed with Multi-Meltas, so I'd say it's a non-starter.
