I'm dusting off my Eldar after a break of about two years (been using nids and playing ancients instead).

Welcome back to the Pointy-Ears, LB!

And yes, the missing 1+ init for Black Guardians is a typo and has been corrected in the master document.

I'm back from Australia, caught up with work, and over an illness... so it's back to EPIC for me!   :agree:

Im just wondering if i have read the gates of vaul correctly, as is says ANY  eldar formation may enter play from them, thus including super heavies and titans of all types and flyers ?

Cheers

Yes, it's the "big" version of a Webway Portal.

The downside being, if the enemy blockades it, you can't use it at all.

ah cool, well that seems quite useful then  lol.
also since these are blockable by the enemy formations under the "special rule"  for lack of a better term,  how does this relate to the thread in regards normal gates being blocked ?

Cheers

Tim NZ

p.s.   Keep up the great work on the Compendium.

Why is it that Wraithguard and the Wraithlord get to use the hit and run option?

As these are automatons with no self-thought, would it not be reasonable that any formation with these units could not take advantage of such a rule?

If you do not see it as a problem with the Eldar list as it is, how about for lists that use these units as core formations?

Shouldn't the rules for these take into account future spin-off lists (within reason) and comply with fluff rather than blanket rule all formations?

As an Iyanden player, I see no problem with either of these units having hit and run. My Wraithguard are always mechanized, and thus would be able to take advantage of the Wave Serpent's mobility in relocation. On foot, they have a 15cm move, which is usually not enough to get a formation into support range.

Spirithosts are accompanied by Spiritseers, who specialize in communicating with the dead. Guardian Warhosts have Farseers, who serve tha same function. Wraithlords are powerful Eldar Spirits, and suffer Wraithsight less than their lesser counterparts.

In addition, one could rationalize that the intense emotion associated with combats (or impending combat) serve as a psychic beacon in the shifting maelstrom of Wraithsight.

On a more practical note, why exclude only two units from the Army Special Rule, when (in the original list) neither could be taken alone?
This seems a needless complication.

The real impact is in assaults and the move after this.

Being an Eldar player I have to ask, have you come up against an Iyanden force?

It is usually opponents that see things that players do not...

To be honest I have not. You are, I assume worried about the ability of wraith-units to affect multiple engagements using the hit and run rule?

An Aspect warhost of 2 Reaper Exarchs and 6 Avengers in Wave Serpents (550pt) puts out 10 2/3 FF hits on average. They have a hit and run range of 35cm, assuming thier transport is not wasted.

A Spirit Warhost in Wave Serpents (650 pt) puts out 6.5 FF and 3 MW FF hits. Their survivability is better, and they are better against heavy armor, but they have the same range and same chance of affecting multiple engagements. After the first engagement, survivability is a moot point as they cannot take damage from supporting fire.

Spirit Warrior Troupes are best used in CC, and have only a 15cm move, not enough to make a differance to a canny opponent.

Have you had any experiences where the Hit and run ability of Spirithosts had a disproporionate affect on the game, and would not with a comparable formation?

I would just like to point out that Wraithguard and Wraithlords are not automatons, rather they just see the world differently in comparison to the living, which isn't quite the same thing.  Whether this means they should benefit from the hit and run rule, however, is open to debate, in terms of the background, but is probably better discussed in a new thread, rather than in this one.

Why? It just needs a simple answer doesn't it? Then the Ac can take some initiative if required.

*nod*

I just find MW FF to be quite powerful and overviewed in such a list as the Ityanden list.

Seeing I appear to be the only opposition to them with a voice, I guess it is a mute point.

I don't know whether that was intentional or not (I like to think it was) but that's a pretty damned funny pun.
