It's just natural, if you make a unit with a 3+/6+ save, that doesn't create blast markers when killed, people are going to use it primarily for meat shield duties, and CC being rarer than other types of fighting, "meat shield" is going to be the main use for any summoned Daemon that isn't attached to an attack-bias formation like Terminators.

All the above has combined to make Plaguebearers the most common Daemon type.

Plaguebearers are still helpful to take hits in Engagements (and survive) that would have killed other Daemons. So whilst they might not kill as much in Engagements, they handily don't die as much either... in fact Plaguebearers formed about half of the Daemons in my mate Scott's unbeaten (IIRC) L&TD army used in this very role... he'd just line the Plaguebearers up at the front and then Firefight over their heads with Cultists.

Note that with CC 3+ the Plaguebearers themselves tended to reap a good toll of kills too.

Most likely however it still feels odd to have them as inferior marines.

Then you agree my logic is sound ; what then would you suggest if not to downgrade the Plaguebearer so as to balance its utility*** against that of the other Daemons?

CC4+ and a reduced/removed FF stat would help make it less flexible, to give it a more concrete role (that of 'Meat Shield') rather than as now, where it fills multiple roles (both 'meat shield' and also combat power equal to that of the Bloodletter unit (what it loses in CC, it gains in FF)).


***Utility, not combat potential in an Engagement.

Are you looking at the daemon's role as opposed to the other daemons or purely from the side effect it has on your particular games with an un-official list?

I understand your points, but it seems that you want 3+ CC and great armour. Should this not be balanced to the other daemons? Looking at all the stats, they are the superior daemon to take for the same points and this is not right IMO

I'd try it with downgrading just the FF.  If that's not enough, then look at the CC.
