Greetings fellow Chaos players.  Having managed to transfer my Eldar from Space Marine second edition to Epic EA during the course of the year (although more work will be needed), I have decided to also try working on my Chaos force.

Given that my Space Marina era Chaos army included elements from both Chaos Marine and the Lost and the Damned forces, I could go either way, and I may field both in the future, but for the moment I would like to field a Lost and the Damned army, because I have a lot of Daemon Engines that I would like to make use of.

Having looked at the army list though, I'm a bit stuck about where to begin.

I have, in addition to nine Daemon Engines of Khorne, three Doomwing, a pair of Silver Towers, a Firelord, and the Lord of Battles, numerous Minotaurs and Trolls, as well as some Beastmen and Cultists, but I'm a bit stuck on what else to add, and how mechanised I ought to go with the list.

There are also some issues with models.  I assume Imperial Guard infantry are used to represent units like Cultists, but which models do all you Lost and the Damned players use for characters, such as Arch Heretics?

I also have the old Primarch and Daemon models (greater and lesser).  Are these out of scale now, or are they still okay?  Would the old Primarch models be suitable for Daemon Princes?

I'm looking initially to build a 4000 point army list, so if anyone has any suggestions and/or tactics, I would appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you.

Thanks for the link Hena.  It doesn't look as though things went according to plan for you in that game.

Which models did you use for the Mutants/Big Mutants, Cultists and Demagogue/Arch Heretic?  I was trying to see from the photos, but it was a bit too hard to make out.

Generally people use the cultists from the epic chaos sprue as cultists, the beastmen from the same sprue as mutants and the cultist leader model from the same sprue as characters.

For big mutants it varies between ogryns and old troll and minotaur models.

There's talk of tactics on another thread at the moment and my LatD army can be seen in my painting blog: some scratchbuilt LandTransporters etc in there and it's an award winning paintjob to boot  :;): !

Lots of people use the old beastmen models for mutants.

Thanks for the replies.  It's good to know all my old Beastmen and Cultists are still viable, but I only have one unit of each from my old Chaos army, so I may just have to put the Chaos infantry boxed set on my Christmas list, as having looked at it, it does look rather tempting.

I will take a look at those scratch built Land Transporters, but because I am singularly inept at the modelling and painting aspect of the game, are there any models which make for good Land Transporters?  I could use Chimeras instead, but Land Transporters are cheaper, and I would rather have some points to spend on my array of Daemon Engines, than Chimeras.

Also, is ebay the only place to get hold of a couple of Silver Towers, or are there any other sources?

I've had a look at the tactica thread, but none of the suggested lists there have enough Daemon Engines in them for my personal taste, so I will have to think more about the list, and how, since I will be facing Marines, I'm not going to get completely outmanoeuvred.  I have a lot to mull over...

This is one of the cheapest APC's about ($0.75 each). However other companies make excellent flat beds that fit the land transport idea well. There are also very basic bits about like these http://reivercasting.wordpress.com/6mm- ... ion-range/

I had a look through the links at some of the options for Land Transporters, but I wasn't very inspired by any of them unfortunately, so I may end up using Chimeras instead, as while they cost more points, I'm sure they do have their uses, especially since they are not LVs.

I am a bit bothered about one thing though.  In the rules for basing infantry, it stipulates that any infantry unit must have a minimum of three models on a stand.  This is something of a problem as all my old Minotaurs and Trolls are one figure per base, so I suspect that I'm going to have to rebase them all.  Is this so?

I'm hoping to get some sort of tentative army list up soon, but I'm still not sure how many Covens I ought to be fielding in a 4000 point army.  Any thoughts?

To be in strict compliance with the rules as written, yes.

In practice, I very much doubt many people will care.
