This may be an interesting page:
http://www.ninjamagic.com/cgi-bin/gt/tpl.h,content=23&

there is more on that side about rapid prototyping.

Kinda wish the armoured sides were a bit closer to the hull and didn't stick out as much. But it looks great either way!

I think I can crop some of the triangular part thay joins the hull and the wings. With the whole model it looks too large. Carefull with the imperial lances that should have some space.

And the "Voice" prow will be larger that the guns hull, so maybe It'll look less wide with it. It should be as large as the engine hull pib pipes.

Be careful of how you do the prow, I think it would look better if you didn't follow the original exactly but added a bit more graceful lines to it. I honestly find the original voss light cruisers to be a bit ugly with how the prow fits with be batter slots and the rear.

I'm attaching a pic of the original models.

Would like to see the Prow blend better into hull like maybe the Dauntless. The originals do look a bit boxy/awkward.

I agree that the prow could be a wee bit sleeker, but it has to fit with the rather fat bulge of the forward weapon section, so proportions need to be maintained. EDIT: The Apocalypse battleship prow could serve as a model for a sleeker version of this sort of prow.

The one thing I always thought was a bit far-fetched in the original design was the armor plates protecting the mid-section.  The original design made them fairly thick, which would've added a huge amount of mass to the ship, from a sci-fi functional standpoint.  I would think that any extended armor plating would be more akin to the modern anti-shaped charge armor found on modern tanks-- relatively thin, but detonates, diminishes, and dissipates the force of the charge far enough away that it can't penetrate the hull.

Perhaps a thinner armor plate might make the ship look less bulky.

As for Mr. Kafeine's work, however, it is undoubtedly impeccable.

The armour plates are the key feature for me to like these models.

Oh, the 'bad' part of the original model was the thin midship section of the hull.

This is pure speculation on my behalf but I do suspect that those original light cruisers were made with larger prows so that they might be fitted onto plastic cruiser hulls to make Voss pattern cruisers and battlecruisers. Just a theory though. I tend to agree that a slightly downscaled prow and side armor would make the model sexier...even though it departs somewhat from the original GW design. I don't think the armor should be thinner though: There's a risk of running into casting problems if they get too thin.

Seems so. The conversion for the Overlord in the BFG Magazine 14 (or 13 ? or 12 ?) uses the Endeavour prow, and it fits. By the pictures of the pieces of the Endeavour front hull part, it's the same size of the plastic cruiser ones. And I based my measures on this too :)

I can't figure where you would see this side armour  :sulk: . The fins on the central hull part ? I made them a bit bulkier than the example that was on the net some time ago.

I meant reducing the size of the side armor panels. If you take the excort as an example the side armors's relative size is much smaller. Dunno. Just a personal feeling that it might be iteresting to see them at reduced size. But the ship looks ice nevertheless :)
