Just got a chaos hoard box from mail order and its come packed in a crisp white citadel box, rather than the orange and black art worked epic:armageddon box.

Is this just a one off or are GW removing the epic specific packaging?

Doesn't really matter i suppose, but it seems like a further loss of identity for epic.

All the SG range blisters (at least Epic and Warmaster afaik) have been repacked in the white blisters.

Pretty sure it's been that way since at least the start of this year since I started buying epic again.

The white ones are probably a little cheaper as they'd use less coloured ink and having all the boxes the same probably is too.

Hadn't considered it an issue; Epic's mail order only these days sadly anyway, so by the time someone sees the packaging they've bought it already anyway.

Ah well, seems im a bit behind the times then I brought 2 chaos boxes from mail order a few months ago and both where in the epic boxes.

It could certainly be cheaper having one box for all.

I'm not an expert but possibly a tiny amount better for the environment with less coloured ink used too? The polar bears and penguins may give it a thumbs up on their rapidly diminishing homelands

Hmm possibly better for the environment as it no longer has the plastic window, although the cost reduction of using less ink on an offset litho press is small, the big saving will be not needing 2 separate print runs and the citadel boxes only being 2/3 colour (fewer towers needed on the press).

They started the transfer of all SG items to the Citadel Packaging at least a year and a half ago.

Cost saving measure.

I'd say the biggest thing is probably that they can use the same boxes for all SG products and order larger quantities.

One of GW's more sensible business decisions, it seems to me.

Nothing quite as good as penguin soup right before you hunt for polar bears.  Except maybe clubbing a baby seal along the way, just for the sport of it of course.

I noticed both types of packaging from SG - my guess is some people may still get the old stuff as they run through the older inventory.

The best part about white boxes is it makes it much easier for them to screw things up (hmmm, this weighs about a pound but it says "Epic Eldar Shining Spears".  Ah, no matter - ship it anyway!)
