But personally I just think some updated versions of the old design would be a lot of fun!

I'd like to see that, too.

It is a nicely detailed model, but I really prefer the E40k version. It just looks less like a flying shoe to me :p

Don't get me wrong: I know a lot of people would like their Epic models to be exact copies of the 40k counterparts and this is certainly a major selling point for Epic in the first place.
...But there's some nostalgia in those old designs, and at this scale I think it could be quite interesting to see how they could be brought up to date. If we use the plastic dreadnought/venerable dreadnought as an example: How do you sexy up those old models, and is it even possible that it may help with some of the IP issues if the new model looks suficciently diffferent from the original (ok. most likely it will still be IP infringing)
Imagine the old mk1 Land Raider, flattened slightly (perhaps enlarged a bit overall), with super detailed tracks, panel lines and weapons. It would still be recognisable as a Land raider, but it would make the chaos version look distinctly different from it's loyalist counterpart - and not just because of a few spikes and chaos icons. In an ideal world we would have both options of course  :p

(BTW: No offense to Niks model is intended. It is a really nie piece of work. Just exploring ideas for other posible designs that's all   )

I'd like to see this version myself:
Nice update of the classic style model.

That's pretty much the E40k-era plastic Land Raider.

That is indeed the 2nd ed plastic. I personally wouldn't want that as a) I've got lots but more pertinently unlike my 1st ed stuff b) its already a better 'size'.
Though I do have a few 3rd ed chaos raiders that are earmarked as terminator transports, with the 1st ed gear for the stand lone tank formations.

Some of the old designs were really nice. For example I still like the old Bubble turret Predator a lot. The E40k Vindicator is also a favourite of mine. The current Land speeders are awfull IMO. Of course model quality in terms of detail has improved, but in terms of design, a lot of the old things have some good things going for them. I think it is no coincidence that Forge World had a good look at the SM2/TL era plastic dreadnought when they designed their Venerable Dreadnoughts.

Will some people prefer the current designs with spikes added? Sure. But personally I just think some updated versions of the old design would be a lot of fun!

Yeah, the original Predator is still the best, though the E:A one is certainly an improvement over the stupid E40K version.  The later SM2 version Leman Rus is still probably the best and I think you'd be hard pressed to find a doubles team who agree the Reaver or Phantom got any better with later versions  :grinning: .  The E40K Chaos designs were 'unfortunate' in my opinion and I'm sure the talent here could do better, but again, at the scale of the originals for me please.

Any news on when these'll be available to European customers, Nik?  I have Paypal funds needing to be spent!

Considering that the "current" Reavers and Phantoms are the original ones, I'd have to agree with you!

You forget (rightly so) the ham-fisted abomination that was the E40K version Phantom, and the "box with stilts" FW Reavers  :_(

I haven't forgotten them, unfortunately.
