Thanks. YEah. I didn't bother touch up details for these shots, so the pait is a bit runny in some areas   :vo
The red on the bolters are highlighted from scab red to blood red but I didn't want to do this for the shoulder pads. Since I would be painting the squad numbers over these I thought it'd be too much work to actually paint the tactucal symbol properly, so I just did a weak bloor red stripe to suggest that there's something red underneath. At this scale you can get away with a lot of things, so I thought the toned down red from just a single layer of blood red over the black backgound would help disguise my laziness  :vD

I think if you did a light drybrush of a yellow before you wash it will help brighten up the highlights. Alternatively you can try a white drybrush layer before (I think you are using green ink) washing the models, if you aren't using a green wash, then just lightly drybrush white and then hit it again with your lighter green since it will bump up the contrast.

Thanks Vaaish. The procedure is pretty basic: Black undercoat. Wetbrush DA green, adding in yellow to the mix in some 4-5 layers of highlight drybrushing. Then a bit of black wash in selected areas. The trouble is that normally the paint tends to go a bit powdery, which is great for the highlighting. However this Dark Angels green seems much more sticky (which is probably also why it gets the glossy finish) so I'm having trouble controlling it properly. This is probably also why the detail seems to clog up and get a bit soft.
I might have a go with the yellow drybrush/green wash to see how that works out as it is definitely the DA green that is causing the problems.

Hi there!

Awesome conversions! I'd love to see a how-to on the plasma cannon! :)

About the paint job: all in all it looks good, but the colour used for highlighting looks a bit odd to me. Did you paint the infantry the same way you did the tanks? 'Cause on the rhinos etc. it looks good. Maybe that's just the close-up shot.

I think a "pure" colour, maybe Scorpion Green, might be better for a finishing touch than some mixture.

I wonder what you come up with in the end, because I have similar problems at the moment. I just cannot get a look I am happy with for my infantry, whatever colour I try.  :p

cheers,

It is not that bad, but I'd just have liked some slightly sharper highlights. I'm hand painting some in a few select areas. It looks og on the tabletop but of course I'd like them to look a bit crisper for close up shots as well. I guess that is a bit perfectionistic...But then again, I spent quite a bit of time converting these, so it'd be wasted if I gave them a sloppy paint job  :;):
Speaking of: I'm still working on the infantry. I thought I'd go overboard and see how much detail I could possibly add, so I decided to paint a glass effect on the seargeants' bionic eyes. This is te one that came out the best.Still a bit of touching up to do on the face itself. Now I'm not going to do insane details like this on everything, but for a few pieces it is good fun :D

hehe I hear ya. I think I'm up to somewhere around 340 for the IF infantry so far, eventually it seems to almost get automatic :)

You're eyes must have crazy zoom settings to get all that detail on there, fantastic work WMN.  :)

Hey WMN,

Looking good so far, thats some insane detail on the SGT. Did you get much in the way of inspiration from those images?

Cheers
Aaron

Thanks guys.
@ Paul: Yeah. It is a lot of work for sure, but it is very rewarding once it is done. You'r stuff is a great inspiration for this. What happened to the Space Wolves projet you began after doing Logan?

@ Cal They most certainly did. I still haven't got around to working on the vehicles, but there's definitely some good pointers there. One thing that confuses me though, is that number insignia sometimes seem to designate the company number and sometimes the vehicle number. Or am I reading it wrong?

Almost finished with the two units if Tactical Marines: When working on the bases I suddenly realized I forgot to paint the capes on two of the captain (well sergeants to me) miniatures. Question is what color to go for. Black would be fairly neutral, but on the other hand it might be interesting with a bone color instead, to tie them in with the veteran units (I still have to convert some robed veterans for a couple of command stands).

Also the two banners may be a bit dull. Keep them black or go for bone color here as well?

Finally for the bases. For now they're just Graveyeard earth, but I need to decide if I want to add anything else. I'm not sure if I want to use flock or static grass as the green color may not contrast very well with the already green marines. One option might be small patches of grass, washed with brown and drybrushed with a bit of bone for a withered ad wearthered look. This might be neutral enough to keep the marines the main focus of the stands.
