Its also worth picking up 'Liber Chaotica' for a more recent GW background book on the Chaos Gods. This very much goes back to the more complex Gods of old, with the great powers embodying positive and negative aspects. Definitely worth a read if you like the Chaos Gods presented in a more in depth manner.

Yes. The author of some of that work also writes for WFRP (or did, until he fell out with GW management) and has a great respect for the 'old' Chaos Gods. It is worth noting that the newer WFRP books are also quite good, especially ones written by Freelancers as they slip things in under the radar when GW are not looking (such as the Fimir...)  :smile:

And, by all accounts, the Dark Heresy books have been featuring stuff that GW are not keen to have in 40K; like the Demiurge (Squats) and the Hrud (by virtue of equipment players can use).

Certainly more interesting than mindless "murder! murder! murder!" khorne of current fluff.

I think I'll switch to this too. If I get around doing epic chaos army I'll make point of emphasising this in background :D

Well in Heros of the Space Marines which is a pretty new book there are two  Champions of Khorne with some sence of honour. Ok both got killed because of this but the example stands :D

I lean towards the idea that both interpretations of Khorne's nature exist, that some of his followers worship him in his aspect as an embodiment of martial pride, while others view him as personifying mindless, murderous rage. And as both a God, and a creature of the warp formed from the thoughts and emotions of mortals, he is probably quite capable of being both.

Interestingly noticed that EpicA chaos lists background supports Khorne as martial honour god. Specifically mentions for example him not taking any joy from destroying the weak and that his daemons will hunt down all warriors who betray their honour by killing helpless innocent or murdering in cold blood.

Me likes it! Must...Resist...Temptation...To...Start...Yet...Another...Army!

Would it be okay to give in to temptation later? You know? After getting tyranids and maybe necrons done(whether suitable infantry proxies appear in time or not)  :whistle:

The existence of Kharn the Betrayer certainly supports your view and there is definatly room for both versions (and it keeps it interesting).
Kharn was a favorite of Khorne because he never stopped the slaughter once he started, even killing his own men (hence 'betrayer'), but he is the exception rather than the norm (if all Khorne followers killed each other, there would be no Khorne followers...).
