To quote Forge World Newsletter 207, when the Valdor was first mentioned:
Forge World: "First up is the new Imperial Valdor Tank Hunter, an ancient design based on the Malcador chassis, it is built round a powerful neutron laser weapon able to make a mockery of the strongest armoured defence. Although more common in the forces of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the arcane technology used in their construction makes these tanks revered relics within Imperial Guard armoured companies, while on Vraks they were turned to the traitor`s cause by the dark arts of Chaos."

E&C from another thread talking about where they could be used:
No loyalist list currently makes use of them.

I'm sure someone will write one at some point, some kind of PDF regiment would probably be appropriate?
It seems appropriate Ad-Mech forces would keep the rare powerful tech for their own armies. I think E&C may be mis-reading the fact some are mothballed on Vraks to mean they're crap and only worthy bothering with for PDF - the opposite I think is the case with these particular tanks being reserved, rather than them being wasted on any old Guard regiment/conflict.

I have been of the opinion for some time that the Ad-Mech lists as are, are too boringly similar to the Imperial Guard list in the tanks and vehicles that they use and that they're really lacking enough weird tech stuff (likely we'll have to wait for FW to feature a proper Ad-Mech force in a supplement before we'll get new background and units to work with properly). Adding these would be appropriate and a good step to make them more distinct I think.

Can we have our Ad-Mech Valdors please?

Not a bad idea. I can see your reasoning.

You're going to have to work hard to convince me ; The Skitarii army list already has a lot of choice.

Is it not better for Ad Mech to field their own units rather than stuff taken from Imperial Guard?

If youadd the Valdor and are concerned about number of unit choices, would it not be better to drop something else?

Cheers

James

HQ tank choice for russ company maybe?
Otherwise they will make sexy stand-in Ordinatus Minoris.

Actually that is an excellent idea!!

It is a unit for which we dont currently have a model. And we have a model without stats. Match made in heaven!

Reading through the PDF link that E&C provided in other thread it seems as if Forgeworld have given Valdor 2 structure points, which makes sense given that it (& Malcador) are in between Leman Russ and Baneblade in size. And Ordinatus Minoris have DC2. Perfect!!

I like this suggestion as has virtue of simplicity. No new rules or new stats required. Thus easier to playtest.

Cheers

James

It also makes the sci-fi-neutron-laser-mounted-on-a-sharks-head cannon an easy proxy for whatever titan weaponry you choose to count it as, i guess. Annoyingly I just bought 3x earthshaker carriages to convert into minoris ;-)
