I can appreciate E&Cs desire for standardisation (his Malcafloor and Walking Robots are testament to his excellent reproduction and CAD skills), but I still think there's room in our hearts for a subtly different Chimera hull.
I for one like the 'slab' sides a lot, but perhaps a way to appease the purists would be to have the upper half of the track sides extruded further than the slabs on the lower half of the track side (as on the original Chimera)? The raised bit I mean is facing the camera on the upper track sides as shown
here.  This upper bulge could be reproduced in a homage-like way on the Otterware sides.
That way it is an interestingly different take, but still retains the character (and some of the side-on profile?) of the original.  I personally would probably buy a bunch of the current 'slab' design, especially if they're at a better scale/ratio than the current SG/almost gone FW models.
After all, the rules have been taken out of GWs hands by the players, why can't we take a few liberties with the designs as well?
Just my two cents.
EDIT: TRC sort of beat me to it, I concur with his POV.
