I'm sure she has spoken her peace, and there will be no connection with her in the future.  A lot of what she wrote in the second blog had a ring of truth, it was just a back peddle from her original argument.  Fact is she did attack the game, even if she did pick it randomly.  And, I was a bit offended that her go to argument was to equate wargames with pillage.  That's not cool, ever.  That is desperation.

Did the gamers over-react, probably, but I for one was offended by her comments.  I remember back in the 80's when D&D was a gateway to Satanism and teenage suicide.  In the 90's it was Vampire the Masquerade and Magic the Gathering.  Whenever you attack something that people hold dear, even if it is a silly war game, you are going to get attacked back, and people have that venue now to attack back.  Through her chosen medium of the interwebs.

I was going to ask her some questions, then realized, I didn't know if she was uber-liberal, or uber-conservative religious type.  I don't even know where to start arguing with this person.  But ultimatly she is correct, this game is not for children, and adults should be aware of the content of this game.  She just did it a little overzealously, got caught, and is now reaping what she sowed.

I don't know, the whole site seems to have an uber-liberal conspiritorial vibe to the thing.  Mentions of NWO (not the pro-wrestling group, or the Steve Jackson card game) and the mentions of brainwashing and indoctrination.

The obvious argument is that mammals are just prone to violence, watch a nature program about primates, dolphins or even Meerkat Manor.  Nature is violent, whether for territory, mating rites, or as a play thing.  Humans are no different, we just have more things to fight over thanks to religion, ethnicity, drugs, our favorite sports team, puberty, and econimic position.

Okay that is now for cents from me, probably too much out of me.

See...we could have an interesting conversation of our own here; i'd argue that we've evolved beyond the need of such things (violence) and with intelligence should be able to see and solve our way out of these things...again, just another two cents...

My point really being that as far as i'm concerned i'm a bit of peacenik hippy type anyway, i do a lot of campaigning  (pro-peace work in particular) and violence scares me a great deal, i hope that i'm one of the most peaceful people i know; but yet i really do love wargaming...great stuff!

MOK, I wouldn't hold any of your arguments against you.  I flip flop between hope and despair.  I see beutiful things that people do for each other, that fill me with hope.  I see terrible things done to each other that scare the crap out of me.  I see the differences between man and nature and the similarities.  I try to be optomistic, but sometimes, my faith is shattered.  But that doesn't me we give up working for something better, it just means we have to work harder.

Not in the US, dude.  The far right "ultra-con" label is associated with anti-government sentiment and attached to separatist militias and such (as well as Libertarians, which chaps my ass to no end).  It's ridiculous to label them conservative for obvious reasons, but nonetheless "New World Order" conspiracies are strong in the right-wing nutjob category.

Of course, pacifist "right wing" fringe groups/people are few and far between.  The left wing nutjobs have a separate set of corporatist/fascist NWO theories.

So... still no way to tell.

It's a whole separate discussion, but it kills me how something like classical liberalism is considered "conservative" in the US, when it's considered a wing of liberalism in Europe.  I find it extremely bothersome that a libertarian opposition to government meddling is automatically equated with a pro-corporate agenda when the exact opposite is true - the majority of government regulation actually strengthens the position of established large corporations.
