I missed all the fuss but it appears she probably received lots of hate mail for her opinions on gaming.  Whatever her opinions were I can agree on the level that it is the responsibility of parents to decide what "toys" they introduce to their young children.  

I have a new young son at home and I will not make any effort to introduce him to the evils of space marines or fantasy.  Sure he will grow up war gaming, but i'm going to try to steer him down the path of historicals instead.  It is my parental responsibility to keep him from the evils of GW.

Well if anyone is buying G/W stuff for their 6 year old ... they are very rich and/or very stupid !!  But I do agree with her/he/it ... W40K players suck cause the rules suck and G/W sucks ... see ... perfect logic !!     Parents should be involved or at least aware of what their clones are doing ...  I'm from the blame "the parents first" school of thought ...  Some one has to take responsility for what the little monsters are doing or will do.    But all that being said, if she/he/it does not want her child to play a wargame, read comics, watch violent movies, etc. ... that is her right as a parent. And shouldn't force her thoughts on us any more then we should on her. Fanatics have a tendency not to listen to logic and reason.   But I really, really find it hard to believe that W40K, or any other wargame turns you into a warmonger or blood thirsty killer ...  Most of you know my background, and generally it takes a lot of training and leadership to turn most into "blood thirsty killing machines" ...    Actually unless you or your men/clan/buddies/etc. are in grave danger many have a hard time "squeezing the trigger" ...  So like many liberals or others who really don't understand the dynamics of warfare, violence and killing or have not studied history ...  She's a big bit off base ... I think she is really upset because she believes she is totally correct, regardless of what others think.  And when some pointed out to her she's a Frakk'n moron, idiot, buffoon, etc., etc.  She can't really understand that or fathom how silly/stupid/unaware, etc. ... she really is ...    But I could be wrong ...

O noes not the Space Machines!!!

I *thought* I was a caring non-aggressive vegetarian, studying a postgraduate course in ethics. I got into these at a young age though, so of course I *must* really actually be an twisted evil warmonger subconsciously, about to burst into violence and rage at any moment.

On a serious note though the hobby will be having *some* kind of an influence of kids development, just not the kind she thinks of. It probably does train us to be good capitalists (expending our work-production for distractions to keep us happy and occupy our 'free' time) and to want the latest new better thing. Compared to violent videogames, which are a widely indulged in passtime these days, wargaming does have creative, artistic and social elenents not found in the former and I think it's a better option.

This is where I actually agree with her tirade. It is the parents' responsibility to keep a child away from GW; it's not GW's responsibility.

Didn't see the page before it was, er, altered.  But despite the half-crazed repetitive rant left in it's place, and the image Chaplain Leviticus posted (which is a headbanger), I can see germs of valid points in there.  Parents do have a right to restrict what their children are exposed to, GW or not, and gamers as a whole are not paragons of social balance, rationality and virtue.  Myself included.  I've seen and participated in too many petty, childish circlejerks, nerd-squabbles, and sheer dumbass statements to have many delusions about the overall intelligence and stability of gamers.

I'm really quite angry about the kind of reactions I've seen.  This isn't so much a case of gamers being right, as it is a case of us vs. them, and gamers being as butthurt and reactionary as the person who created that page.  I can imagine some of the Einsteins who contacted her(?) and what they might have said.  The way you guys in particular have leapt on her is not a pretty sight.

This person has missed the fact that Warhammer 40,000 is basically made of irony and comical excess, and taken everything at face value.
