Yep.
Daemon Engines in Eh40k ignore Crew Stunned and Crew Shaken results on the Vehicle Damage Table which translates to an Invulnerable Save in Epic.

Land Raiders have the Machine Spirit which enables the Land Raider to fire one weapon even if it got a Crew Stunned or Crew Shaken result (in addition to allways fire one weapon at a different target which is normally only allowed for War Engines).

So shouldn't the Land Raider (and its variants) get the Invulnerable Save ability (in addition to Reinforced Armour and Thick Rear Armour)?

Nope.

The Daemon Engine invulnerable save in Epic represents their Daemonic nature, not their ability to ignore 'stunned and shaken' results.

Nope.

The Daemon Engine invulnerable save in Epic represents their Daemonic nature, not their ability to ignore 'stunned and shaken' results.

Ignoring stunned and shaken IS due to their daemonic nature.
Daemons have their Invulnerable Save, because they don't bleed to death, aren`t concerned by pain or suffer imminent deathby removal of bodily parts, because their physical shells are made manifest in reality due to the daemons will.
Daemon Engines however have physical shells wich are not a part of the daemon itself. It's more like downloading a KI into a robot. Harm to its physical body will get it loose its grasp on reality and it will vanish back to the warp.

So both are pretty resilient the difference is that daemons can sustain themselfes while daemon engines need a physical ancor.

So the Daemon Engines daemon is nothing more like a Ghost/Spirit animating a machine.
Same as the Machinespirit which animates the Land Raider.

No, the Epic Invulnerable Save is because Chaos Daemon Engines are made of magic. :)

Think of it as an extra rule that goes entirely unrepresented in Warhammer 40,000.

Sorry but then the Invulnerable Save makes absolutlely no sence on Daemon Engines.
The Fearless is still hard to shew on but really then Daemon Engines should be just ordinary Armoured Vehicles with no special rules to represent their daemonyness. The strange weapons and outlook they often have are enough.

It's because they're magical, that's all, not an attempt to replicate 40k's rules.

Dameon Engines aren't magical. Only what animates them (Daemons) and perhabs their weapons are magical.
Only Dameons semselfe are entirely magical.

...which is why it only keeps the invulnerable save rule and not the other daemon rules like summoning.

invulnerable save is used in this case to represent something other than the direct translation of 40k rules, it's used to give a consistant flavour to all daemonic units and vehicles.

As we would say in French : "TGCM".

"Ta Gueule, C'est Magique" meaning more or less "Frak you, it's magic".

What is the purpose of the change in terms of game mechanics?

I don't see any reason for changing unit stats unless there is a hard, compelling reason for it that cannot be addressed by simpler means, like point changes.

Isn't Machine Spirit beautifully covered by ATSKNF?
