Cool, I like it.

The stumpy barrel and big muzzle/fume extractor remind me of this

O'man

I'm sold mate, I think it makes it truely unique. If we are here only to copy things then I think we are stiffling the creative genious of the community. If you simple reproduce what GW has already made are you not playing a dangerous game in the land of Copyright. I think creating new and apealing figures is where we need to be, unless we are creating designs for manufacture by the GW/FW masters.

My musings, love the new barrel, now to wait for some sort of production to invest in. For background I have placed an oder with O'man for some Chasis, I have a bunch of FW Basilisks that need some attention, and I like th barrels as I have a bunch of bent ones from FW.

Cheers
Aaron

For GlynnG

Mate, a fume extractor, the enlarged area mid barrel on O'mans design provides and area for the gases behind a projectile to escape into, once the projectile has left the barrel a low pressure is created and the gases are sucked forward towards the muzzle and dissipate from the end of the barrel. This assist the crew as the gases are not a;ll forced back into the crew compartment once the breach is opened.

A Muzzle Brake is designed to allow the gases immediately behind the projectile to dissipate through the vents as the projectile is leaving the barrel. This in tern dissipates recoil energy and the effort required of buffers to stop the barrel flying back into the crew compartment and also aides in the reduction of jump from the intended trajectory of the round as it leaves the barrel and air pressure asserts itself on the projectile.

Hope that explains things in semi laymans terms.

Cheers
Aaron

Both typical and muzzle breaked (broken?) variants submitted to PrintAPart. Chassis with my own modifications submitted to PrintAPart.

Chassis with my own modifications submitted to PrintAPart.

Does this mean you went with the chassis with 8 bogeys?

I hid them behind some panels. Just let it be a surprise for now.

I love the lengthened chassis and improved gun. I'm all for better models than GW rather than copies.

The sudden dearth of FW Epic models has caused me to accelerate plans for this chassis.

The first experiment, which I haven't shown, was a dud. As soon as I get a functional camera, I will present the 3D model, prototype, and picture of the castings, plus an analysis of its failings.

The analysis revealed why the first chassis I showed here looked too stubby: the enclosure was situated too far forward.

My plans are to finalize the convenience chassis and get a test print going, then create plug-in modules for prime mover and APC variants.

I suggest stylising them "Lutrinade Pattern"  :vD

Ah, to hell with a picture of the crap version. Here's the 3D model:

Having the actual print revealed the following problems:

1) The hole for the enclosure was about 1mm too wide on each side.
2) The hole for the enclosure was 4 mm too far back.
3) The sides were too boring. The equipment racks, or whatever the hell those things are, were too pronounced and bland.
4) I forgot the sexy track guards.

(1) and (2) combined to make the entire chassis too fugging big. It looked like the Love Boat with a mortar installed. So, some analysis led me to conclude that the earlier experiments had the enclosure situated too far forward.

That solved the length and width problem, but I didn't just want a recreation of the Chimera.

I wanted something Chimera-like, something with an IG flavor, but different.

There was a brief search for alterna-Chimera designs in Visions of War, and some other places, but my lazy search revealed nothing.

So, I resized and put some Ragnarok style slabs on the side. This emulated a prior E40K Chimera design somewhat.

Non-related research with WMN and Exodus Wars revealed the existence of equipment hangers for stowage, and I added those.

I put the L-4 style track guards back on.

I removed the square hatch and re-used my circular enclosure design.

Albanian eagle, gubbins, and rivets added for flavoring and consistency.

Incidentally, I had the cannons printed a few weeks ago, but haven't gotten around to molding them. That includes both FW design copy, and my modernized version.
