Well, the local GW Battle Bunker (in Oakville) has been having "Specialist Games" nights every Friday for the past month or so, so I decided to head on down as I hadn't been there in quite some time.

Man... how depressing... not a single other Specialist Game player there... of *any* system... I even brought two EPIC armies along in case someone wanted to play.

Kids shrieking over a demo game they had obviously played before, staff painting at the painting table, grognards drooling over the new Imperial Guard Codex store copy, and aloof Fantasy Battle players in a corner... it's like nothing had changed in three years... *laugh*

At least there were two nicely painted, if slightly dusty, EPIC armies in one of the display cases... but it sure wasn't worth the drive to Oakville!

Note that I do arrange my games beforehand and not just turn up with army.

Yeah, I usually arrange games either at my house or at a different local game shop.

It was just that this was listed, even on their calender, as "Specialist Games Night!", so I thought more than one person would show up... *LAUGH*

Yeah me neither and I'm from the UK where there might be a higher player density than over with you. Try not to despair and if you do go again bring a mate with you to play (and possibly a few bits of scenery too if they have none epic), you never know if you do that you might get someone else interested in giving it a try another time.

I dunno - there are plenty of reasons why the event might have failed.  It happens with major performers at concert events too. Sometimes the events just don't sell well for a variety of reasons.  If it happened two or more times, then I would be concerned.  Otherwise, don't let it bug you.

(Yes, I am feeling particularly positive today) :D  :)  :))  :agree:

My observation is that most of the WH/40k crowd is pretty resistant to epic/warmaster scale missionaries: the more imaginative among them move on to Warmachine or, more radically, to Flames of War.

The best strategy is likely persistence -- I used a spare table at my FLGS as an opportunity to solitaire myself into increased familiarity with Warmaster rules, and I should probably do the same with Epic:A.

Otherwise, yes, by appointment only.

Yeah, that's what I've found...

There were grognards drooling over the store copy new Imperial Guard Codex dreaming of an army with *four* Valkyries in it... I mentioned I've already used eight, plus Vultures, in EPIC... and it only got a mild shrug and they turned back to the Codex.

Too much "invested" in 40k to change...

Oh well, still got my local crew... just gotta get some more games in!  *laugh*

Four Valkyries is £140... you could get a brand new Epic *army* for that.  :p  :))

I just have a firm theory of never going into a gamesworkshop stores.  All the ones I have been two have ended up in big supermarkets and ended up just being the place where people dump their kids while they go shoping.  So the staff seem to be busy babysitting rather than being much help, and I never like taking out miniatures I have spent hours painting around swarms of kids anyway.

The Oakville GW Bunker is in the middle of an industrial park, used to also be the Canadian GW HQ, but that was shut down last month... so, people gotta go out of their way to get there...

Turns out they's been having "Specialist Games Fridays" all month... and the attendance was about the same... *sigh*

The GW staff here go on a lot about specialist and veterans nights but the couple of times I've turned up I've never seen any specialist games being played!
The particular manager just repeats the line of not selling them here so why showcase them here, rather shortsighted!
