'Tis my house so no forgetting required. Must remember to bring SD card in from car, though.

The missus is even cooking up some Sausage Casserole for the hungry epic-playing masses, all 2 of us now that 2 have cancelled!

Well, I look forward to your report!

Care to start a new thread about it in the Battle Reports section?  Have you picked out your army yet?

Just building one now.

Why can a Harridan purchase 0-9 gargoyles but only carry 4?

Because the Gargoyles can also fly on their own... *laugh*

I have only had 1 game with my nids so go easy with me...

Independents:
6 Genestealers + Broodlord; 200
Harridan + 4 Gargoyles; 275
6 lictors; 300

Synapse:
Hive Group; 475
Assault;125
Attack; 100
Attack + 1 Hive Tyrant + 3 Zoanthropes; 305
Assault + 2 Tyranid Warriors; 225

Brood:
4 Gaunt broods; 300
Gargoyle Brood; 100
Raveners; 125
Haruspex Brood; 175
Exocrines; 150
Carnifex; 125

Reasoning:

I want to see what each unit can do and see what combinations work best. I know the lictors and the stealers are to be feared but have little knowledge of the rest. I'll try and wing it and see what I can come up with. Plus I really want to use all the models that I spent a small fortune on!

Also I guess you had 0-9 because you're gargoyle flocks where in threes. Now that they are back to fours you might as well make it 0-8?

A few more questions. I'll also make a list of the changes you forgot to mention, both in the 9.2 and 9.2.1 versions.

Questions

- Why did the Vituperator gain Planetfall, as there's no spaceship in this list? Is this for the phase III list?

- Why does the Broodlord have Character as a note? Typo, I guess?

Modifications

- All Walker units have lost this ability (now useless because of the Mobility rule).

- Vituperator: FF4+; Spore Pods are now at 4BP instead of 3; it has lost its bio-plasma breath; transport capacity is 9 units.

- Ravener: FF5+.

- Dactylis: speed 20 cm.

- Haruspex: speed 25 cm.

- Malefactor: speed 25 cm; armour down to 5+RA.

- Hierophant: armour down to 5+RA; gained a "Toxic Spores" CC attack (base contact, EA+1); gained Inspiring.

- Hydraphant: gained Inspiring.

- Lictors: gained "May contest but not hold objectives".

- Broodlord: its extra attack is now Sniper instead of MW.

----------------------------------------
----------------------------------------

Well, I think that's all!  :))

I discovered a few interesting things. The Hierophant got 2 boosts (+1 attack and Inspiring) and, even though it's now more fragile, I still think it should cost 300 points. And probably 425-450 for the Hydraphant. Otherwise, good call on the changes.

Chroma, next time could you please highlight the changes in a different colour? They would be a lot easier to spot that way.  :;):

Re: Dactylis, Haruspex, Malefactor

Where'd all those changes come from?

The heavy tyranids have always been in the lists since way back when. Even had Armorcast models of some of them in 40k.

Will get a batrep up either tonight or tomorrow. Minor loss to Space Marines. carnifexes and tyrants are scary beasts in combat - took down a warhound with no difficulty!

Just a point Daemonkin but I think that list is over the 1/3 point limit on Synapse groups (I make your synapse group total as 1230pts for a max 1000pts in a 3000pt game).

On restrictions, is there any way to simplify them. I can't think of any other list that has so many but I do understand its to keep the nids theme and prevent abuse (in keeping with having many tightly focussed lists). There are 3 points restrictions (1/3 max each on synapse, bio-titans and independents) and a unit restriction (1 uncommon per 2 common).

Also is there a reason that Hierodules seem rarely used, I haven't seen any batreps use them. They're on my conversion list but I'm wondering whether its worth focussing on other things first.

I think that to do selection like common/uncommon broods Bio-Titans would need to be removed from their current sections to a new Bio-Titan grouping (Including removal of Dominatrix and Vituperator from synapse)

Then roughly you would do 8 common per Bio-Titan, 4 Common per Independent and 4 Common per Synapse.

Alternatively a more radical idea would be to earn points for each common brood purchased that can be used to buy any other brood. It would alter the list somewhat as it would allow the forgoeing of titans (High point cost) for more assault spawn (Low point cost).

I'm reasonably happy with the current method so consider this random musings.

I think 4 common for independent is quite high. Also making Common come from Synapse means that you can popcorn synapses and that I think is not very Tyrannidy. That's why I'd make the Synapse come from Common as well (eg. 1 Synapse per 2 Common)

I've worded it oddly. Everything is based off of common (So you can have 1 titan per 8 common, 1 independent per 4 common and 1 synapse per 4 common).

I worked it out based on how many selections from each section (independent, synapse and titans) you can get per 1000pts. It's a worst case (spamming) calculation based on using the cheapest common (gaunt) and 1 synapse (Tyrant).

Essentially you can get a tyrant and 8 gaunt broods for 700pts. That leaves 300pts to buy 2 independent broods or 1 titan and when considerering the current limit on independent and titans at 1000pts is 333pts it's quite close.

As an example if independents are dropped to 1 per 2 common then you could take a total pts worth of independents greater than 50% of the army total.
