Some suggestions:

- Make one core formation per Chaos God. Might as well be specific! You can then tweak the sizes and soforth.

- I'm not 100% sure about the inclusion of the Daemonic Engines. These, I thought, were constructions made by the Chaos Marines or other Chaos forces and had daemons bound within, rather than being true Daemonic entities themselves. You're right to not have Defilers, for example, as these things are constructs.

- Soulgrinders DEFINATELY belong in the list, I'd make them a Core formation no less. Oh yeah! Indeed, the fluff is that the Soulgrinders in 40K are the least of the possible shapes these things could have. Soulgrinders are daemonic engines made from Defilers, so one would expect to see other daemonic "morphs" of the daemon engines. So remove the Lord of Battles and make your own, even more twisted, version of it. I would remove all of the Daemon Engines and make 4 large god-specific greater soulgrinders.

- The core Daemon formations could well do with Daemon Princes to lead them, or Heralds. Or both.

- I wouldn't keep the 0-1 limitation on Greater Daemons.

- As BL says, many of the names have changed. Daemonettes on steeds are now "Seekers of Slaanesh", Juggers are "Bloodcrushers", etc. Keep up man!  :vD

You can have up to *four* Greater Daemons in the army... the 0-1 is per Faction represented in the army... so, no multiple Keepers of Secrets or such...  Or do you think that multiples of the same Greater Daemon should be allowed?

Yep, why not. Probably best limited by the core formations somehow.

It's most likely to be one of my two regular opponents Guard or Marines, although my buddy Hengis is digging out his Orks, I may ask him for a game.

Great list. Will have to see if i can get a list together at some point. I like Lord I's suggestion of Greater Daemon daemon engines but i thought the likes of Lords of Battle were Blood Thirsters trapped in an engine by chaos squats. At least, that is what they were back in the day.

I have some of O-man's defilers that I could shoe horn into a Soul Grinder position if one was to be made available!

Yes, that's exactly right. It's like Defilers and Soul Grinders - the Defiler is a machine used as a "host" to trap a daemon (like the body of a daemonhost) and the daemon may be held there against its will. It's daemon-tainted for sure, but its still a material machine.

The Soul Grinders are made from tainted metals - so indeed, from things like Defilers or Lords of Battle - that have become sucked into the Warp and are forged as armour for willing daemons (who owe a great boon for such temporal power).

So the distinction is that a Lord of Battle is a daemon trapped in a material shell, while a soul grinder is a true Warp entity forged for a willing daemon.

I have some of O-man's defilers that I could shoe horn into a Soul Grinder position if one was to be made available!

I'm definately up for trying to sculpt a soul grinder body for the defiler once it's in my grubby hands...

I think both soul-grinders (probably initially in their standard form of a defiler variant initially, perhaps other forms later) and the older style demon engines have a place and should be included in this list.

Couldn't Soulgrinders just use the other various Daemon Engines in a "counts as" fashion?  

Are they that siginicantly different that it wouldn't work?

Hi all.

I've been watching this with interest (brilliant work Chroma!) and just thought I'd chip in with my ramblings regarding the Daemon Engines.

One of the things I recall from my brief period of wanting to play Warmaster was the Daemon army list, which provided very generic categories of 'thing' for want of a better word. The player then basically used what they felt was fitting for each unit type.
Might not the same thinking work for these 'unbound' Daemon Engines? Let's face it GW are never going to make such things in Epic scale, so why not have a 'Daemonic Assault Engine', 'Daemonic Fighter', 'Daemonic Artillery' etc with a set stat line and let the players that want to use the old Daemon Engines to represent them do so, those of us who want to use other things/don't have access to the old models can come up with our own twisted contraptions to represent them.

Well, firstly, I would DEFINATELY include a proper Soul Grinder formation as the equivalent of the daemonic armoured company. Soul Grinders form the backbone of the heavy support in 40K, it should be a core part of your list.

As for the other daemonic engines, yeah, you could have "counts as" but 1) you don't need all of those engines and 2) you can actually make some new units to flesh out the list.
