Well, the design of the desecrator is pretty much up in the air. As far as the current Epic stats are concerned (which are not set in stone) I envisioned them as follows:

Smaller front claws (can we replace them with an extra set of normal legs?)
Replace heavy flamers with havoc launcher (you already have this)
Replace battle-cannon with "ultrasonic disruptor" (design for this is open!) on an AA mount (i.e. pointing upwards)
Replace head with some kind of scanning array

So I would say that a whole variant torso would be best.

The front claws have different docking points than the legs, so that won't work.

Another transmission has been sent to NinjaMagic for mesh appraisal.

Then don't worry about the front legs. They can have claws. I've been planning to do a 40K version but I don't have an extra set of legs to swap in, so that works out okay for me.

Are we on for making a Desacrator variant torso then?

Depends upon if I can recoup the development costs for the base design.

Sorry Lord Inquisitor but IMO I think plenty of basic vehicles are more important to model, variants like Desecrators could always be converted fairly easily.

I just doubt a non-W0k fan created concept model would be anywhere near as popular. It's a new addition to the new Chaos list and I'd have some interest, but not everyone here uses the N-EA lists or even plays the current edition of the game.

Obviously entirely up to our Otterly friend and which way his whiskers turn though.

I'd tend to agree with GlynG here.

It is not that I wouldn't like to see a desecrator eventaully, but there's just a lot of other models I think are more needed. Of course O-man should go for whatever projects take his fancy, but personally I hope he'll focus his efforts on models not easily converted or proxied by other miniatures :)

What are you guys thinking of using as a Decimator? Could that be a project worthy of Otter's efforts?

Mine are minor conversions based on Forge World Stormswords. A dedicated Decimator model wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing, though.

My Death Korps would rather have a Gorgon/Macharius first!  :))

Oh, that's certainly true.

I was just thinking that it would require minimal work to the digital file (just change the cannon on the torso really) and would require only one extra mould - how many moulds are we already talking about for the defiler? 8? We even already have the havoc launcher...

It's no big deal but well worth keeping in mind.

There are 7 distinct pieces: lower body, pair of lower legs, claw, cannon/torso, autocannon, flamer, missile.

If I were to do production metal molds, I would put the claw and leg pair on one sprue, the 3 weapons on another, and possibly the lower body and cannon on a third.

Missile launchers would be cool to add to renegade tanks.

Edit - oh yeah, I need to make a hole in the top for our plug-in head.

Does this mean you're thinking of making the head a seperate piece?  And if not - at the risk of sounding like a complete moron - why not?
Speaking from a strictly modelling perspective, I've worked with bits fiddlier than 3.5mm diameter.  And we're all here for tiny, fiddly scaled minis. :;):

What other considerations?  I'd imagine even that extra small bit would push up the moulding and casting costs some.  How much, would you think? And how would that translate in the cost of the final, individual casts?
