The practical answer is "Whatever subdued military colors you like". One of the IA shows different uniforms by regiment, and they vary from dark gray to olive drab. They're exactly your style, L4.

YEah, I remember seeing some early pics of GW models (probably converted Steel Legion minis) in dark brown uniforms, so technically speaking you could paint them whatever dark subdued colors you like. The dark gray seems to be the norm for the newer FW models though. I think early Imperial Armour books had DKoK tanks in dark green camo patterns, so the grey scheme is a relatively recent development.

Thanks for the intell Boyz !!  Good stuff !!    And yes, dark, drab, colors are my thing ...    So I'm almost done with painting all my SMs, Just DA and GK to go. Then on to my IG ... Which will include RLM Green, Burnt Umber, French Earth Brown, Field Gray, Desert Tan, Prussian Blue-Gray, etc. ... you get the idea !
