Assuming I get my army done – and this isn’t certain – then I’d like to start attending some tournaments from this year (summer onwards realistically). I’ve been to Warhammer tournaments and a Bloodbowl one in the past, but sadly never an Epic one - my favourite game. I have a few questions which I was hoping some of you more experienced tournament players might be able to advise me on:

* Which (UK) tournament has the most epic players? And which tournament(s) tends to be regarded as the best to go to?

* Do any/all tournaments have a best painted army award and if so which ones? I’m planning on painstaking converting and painting my armies to a standard where they could contest this, so it would be a bonus.

* Do any of the tournaments allow a Saim-hann army to be fielded using the varient list or are they all standard Biel-tan only?

Check out the Championship page for the statistics on numbers etc. However, I think the London tournament had the highest attendence with around 23 people attending across the two days. Most event occur in the Mansfield / nottingham area, though there is Britcon in Manchester and I believe one of the other tournys has moved to Liverpool this year.

All the tournaments are a blast and it is difficult to choose a "best" one, though perhaps Britcon both because you get '6' games and they are 4000 points (at least they were the last two years).

All Tournaments award shields (and points) for best painted and sportsmanship though these are hotly contested, so do get painting and converting.

Unfortunately we tend to only use the 'official' lists in the actual competitions so Saim Hann would not be allowed. However, Full Scale Assault (Feb 28-March 1) has a 'gaming' day for experimental lists etc, (and London may do likewise) where this would be welcome.

Glyng,

Like Ginger said, all UK tournaments are a blast and it really is difficult to choose between them. Last year I would say Britcon and London were the best tournaments for me!

I have a "EPIC mailing list" which emails EPIC players within the UK about EPIC events, where they are, how much and how to enter. If you would like to be added to this list them please PM me your name and your email address. I would say that there are around 10 emails a year.

Thank you

Matt

all the uk tournament's are great fun, played in good spirits and well worth a visit.

as for you saim-hann i would still do that craft world but just use the tournament rules for biel-tan
and then you can still use the saim-hann list in friendly games best of both

It will be great if you can staret coming to to tournaments Glyn. Although from the sounds of things it'll mean that there will be another army to further put mine to shame.

We like to think that we have a relaxed atmosphere for our tournaments and make new players welcome.

As others have said Saim-Hann, are not currently allowed, but this is something that we hope to rectify eventually, you can of course use a guardian & jetbike heavy army to keep the same feal.

Cheers for the responses, sounds good

I’ll try and aim to go to Britcon I think and perhaps others sooner too depending how soon I get my army done.

Does anyone have links to pictures of previous armies that have won best army prizes at all, so I could have some idea what the standard can be like? And it's always nice to see pretty armies.

The army I’m working on at the moment will work fine with the standard list. The Saim-han I just have in mind as a possible choice for the army after that and oddly might be a bit more problematic, but it's ages off anyway and I may well do a differeng army before them. The issue with them is just I want to go all out for speed with all bikes and falcon varients and no foot troops. The only way to do that in Biel-tan would be to count all the jetbike units as shining spears, which feels a bit wrong somehow. Though at least I could still use them that way though, do feel sorry for the poor Tau and Tyranid players who I believe can't join the fun at all.

Are there any plans to make other lists tournament official in future? It might be nice to have a bit more variety, though they'd need to be well put together and balanced.

Yes we are slowly working on allowing more lists and it should be noted that Tau and Nids have been allowed at tournaments in the past, but were found to be too good at the time. Although Nids are very close, IMHO.
