I do, for the sake of not damaging the minis whilst handling or in transit. I use small flying base bottoms.

Hmmm... have any pics?  I'd be very interested in seeing that!

I don't have any pics posted here, but there are some early shots of my blood angels over at my myspace page...They were my first army and a titan, all of which have been tinkered with a lot since the pictures were taken as I didn't like some of the details I missed and some general revisions.  My BA's are all based on red mars like gravel.  My Titans are on grass fields around ruined wall bits, and the pointy ears are on straight sand with some grassy flocky patches.  I'm doing an IG army in snow camo, on snow, and then my greenskins will be on ash/gravel.  Then Tau will be on just dessert sand, and then my nids will be in heavy foliage/grass flock.  But I'm also trying to finish a 40K army to play with some of the locals around town in the attempt to get my foot in the door and then pull them into the fold of Epic goodness.

I did just by the girlfriend a camera for Christmas, maybe I can get a tripod and wait for some ample light and take some new shots of my Ulthwe and the rest of my titans.

But to see the old BA's, head over to myspace.com/dcdhermes.

Tricky question.

In FoW I base them. It looks more in line with fire-teams.
In Epic I am bistable. :sus:

I got these hover tanks for CDSU in IronCow/FWC, their opponent number are 6-wheelers and look good on bases. The hooverers less so.  :sigh:

I base them. This way, the army has a more coherent look to it, with all bases sharing the same colours and textures, the vehicles are more protected (not only from the bottom but from all sides, as you tend to make other models touch their base instead of the model itself), your terrain should last a little longer because bases tend to have a more terrain-friendly surface than vehicle bottoms and in general I like the way it looks.

I base my vehicles and believe me I'm all for lazy painting!

As others have said I think it adds that unifying feeling to an army.

Never. I wouldn'd even base Infantry if there where an alternative :D

Yeah, it'd get tiring having to stand hundreds of little guys the size of raisins back on their feet over and over again.

I did base my Renegade Legion grav-tanks, come to think of it.  They needed to look like they were really flying, so I put them on upside-down thumbtacks glued to small washers.  Then I flocked the washers to look like terrain.

I've thought about mounting them (infantry) on a thin yet clear and rigid acetate base before; that way you could see the terrain underneath and it MIGHT look more realistic on the field of battle...either that it would look awaful having a load of shiny plastic bases on the table!

I really prefer just using plain black bases. They blend well enough with any kind of terrain when all those beautifully done grass, sand, lava etc just stick out like a sore thumb on anything else than that specific terrain. For WD battle reports it's awesome, for casual gaming not so much.

edit: just to make it clear, it's totally not because I'm lazy, don't even think about that

Back when I started I didn't base them. Now I do, the people here and on epic-battles.de converted me.

Ok two expecption i have:
Skimmers. All my Falcons, Sepernets (roughly the chape of the vehicle itselfe)and Vypers (1cm x 1 cm)have bases with a rod of wire bent into loops on each end to hold the skimmer aloft :)
and
Walkers. My Dreadnoughts have bases (1cm x 1 cm)too.

Yeah skimmers are almost a must to base. They look so much better when on a stand. Walkers fall over too much when not based.

Still I like to base all of my stuff. It helps me tie it into the terrain I'm using on the battlefield and in my mind just completes it.

To be honest I've been thinking of basing my 40K vehicles too. You can really add a lot of atmosphere to a model by including a base.

Usually I don't base except for the LV's and infantry, however I've started basing the Eldar skimmers and it does look better.

Up until now Ive based my superheavies, but Im very ambivalent as to whether or not this actually makes them look better. If they arent done very well, it is likely the overall impression is better without the base.
