Hi all,
I'm afraid there has been a slip-up in the single units category. The winner of HEAT 1 SINGLE UNIT CATEGORY is in fact a war engine: a Greater Demon of Tzeentch with damage capacity 3, from the L&D list. As it would be unfair to allow a war engine to win the single unit category when a distinct war engine category exists. Thus after some consultation I have decided upon the following course of action:

Single unit Heat 1:

The winner, Greater Demon of Tzeentch by Warpmaster, will be allowed in the final for the WAR ENGINE category.

The runner up, Chaos Cannon by Onyx, will be allowed in the final for the SINGLE MODEL category.

The polls for these two categories will be open in a few minutes.

I apologise for this error, which was entirely my responsibility.

Isn't that just a daemon prince?? (Infantry). The Greater Deamon of Tzeentch from the Warmaster range is a much bigger model than that.

The actual model is a Warmaster Tzeentch "Daemon Character", not a Lord of Change/Greater Daemon...

People could certainly use it as a Greater Daemon, but the model is usually used as a Daemon Prince... which is not a War Engine in the Chaos list, but Infantry... really big Infantry!  *laugh*

Yes exactly. Seems strange to stick a model that's smaller than most normal tanks, into a category for much larger models? Surely it's the size of the model that's the important thing for a competition like this?

Agree with the above.

But if the two competitors involved agree then go with what they want.

The definition of categories and entries in the competition is a pain. In the war engine category you can get anything from an Imperator to the very earliest versions of Imperial Superheavies - of which 6 could fit onto the platform carrying the Imperator towers and dome. The Imperator is of course several times taller than said tanks, and could easily crush one underfoot.

So how do you categorize entries?
By the rules is, I dare say, the only way to go, unless we could have the luxury of creating subcategories (such as titans, superheavy tanks, fortresses etc.) And in view of the wide variety of models which can be used for any unit type (conversions included) going by name is the easiest way out. Is it correct?

Correct or not, this choice was the one I took for the categorization. It is obvious that I should have realized the discrepancy in entries (the demon was not the only one misplaced - I believe the Imperial knight is in the incorrect category as well) earlier on. I proceded with the above post and opened voting to allow the competition to progress. Any decision taken at this point would probably not have been entirely fair. The best I can now offer is the following:

Option 1: proceed with voting with the categories as currently set and change nothing.

Option 2: stop voting in the Single Model Category; eliminate the Lord of Change from the War Engine category; restart the Single Model voting with the Lord of Change now called a Demon Prince, and with the runner up which replaced it eliminated from the final. This would delay the Single Model competition by a week or so and require a restart of voting.

If there is sufficient strong feeling on this issue, I am prepared to go with the 2nd option - assuming Cybershadow has no objections, that is - but this has to be resolved rapidly. So on New Year's day at 0900UT I will take the final decision. Meanwhile, I am letting the voting continue as is.

A note should be taken for future Epicomps:
The organisers: I think a second organiser who is eminently familiar with all possible unit categories and models which could be used should be included, if only to vet entries and if necessary reallocate their category. Had I noticed the issue from the outset I would have done so.
The Epicomp rules: I recommend that a definite set of rules and guidelines should be created. These could be available throughout the year in the Epic section, with the possibility of making clearly identified and notified changes, and CLEAR and CONSISTENT guidelines.

Once again, I apologise for this entire issue.

Sorry V, didn't mean to cause a ruckus,  :vo  just struck by the strangeness of the situation. Yeah point taken about war engine sizes. Tis a tough situation. I don't think anyone will mind your decisions, thanks again for organising and running it all!!
