This is not for codex marines, don't worry. However some variant list might want to use it which I must consider.

Note that cannon might be AP4+/AT6+ shot instead of BP. Since it does resemble Thudd Gun a lot.

I'm curious, why isn't the Thudd Gun in the Codex list?

Thudd Guns are used by the Imperial Guard, not Space Marines.

:oo: Doh!

I was thinking the Thudd Gun was a variant of the Thunderfire. I used to play a lot of allied Marine and Imp Guard armies back in the Titan Legions days.

Nah, the Thunderfire cannon is a new unit type, like a Thudd gun but a bit more powerful IIRC.

But didn't the marines used to have a small artillery weapon?

...don't try to emulate the 40k game in it's awful current form.

40k has been falling exponentially from a wargame to a collectible miniatures game- with the intrinsic Codex Creep, new models having uber rules, etc in the noble quest of holding up a flailing business in a collapsing economy. Each new release is more and more shameless in it's lack of balance, and attempt to get players to shelve their existing models and buy the new novelty toys.

Next you'll be telling me Epic Formations must have Special Characters that for less pts signifincantly boost everyone in the army....shudder. "All my Tactical Formations have Marneus Calgar..."

I'd much rather Epic went it's own way in terms of balance and cohesive armies- rather than pandering to the whim of 40k and the youngsters with parent's wallets it's aimed at.

All i'd like to add to this conversation is the above! It's a good thing i found it or i'd have had to write something almost exactly the same.

Well as far as emulating 40K I don't think anyone was suggesting that. I believe it is a good idea to keep an open mind about new units for Epic though. No one says that they have to be overpowered or anything. Does the list work as is? Yes of course it does. But new units could add for more interesting army compositions. I think variety is a good thing. Maybe as Hena said try it out in a variant list. Then maybe think about it going into the Codex list. No harm in giving it a trial run.  :))

Marines used to have Thudd Guns, Molemortars, Rapiers and Tarantulas. That was back in RT times. Nowdays they don't except that there was somewhere a stat for Tarantula for Marines (don't remember where though it was in army builder).

Marines do have Tarantulas in the current 40k; Forgeworld sell those, in Multimelta, Lascannon or Heavy Bolter configurations.

Those would probably show up in a Marine "defence" list though, are they even mobile on their own?

On the scale of a game of 40k they won't move, but in Epic scale I could see them being seeded by Thunderhawk, or garisoned as an advance sentry, etc.

I do see them working better with a more siege-biased marine army, like the Imperial Fists (Who would also use Thunderfire Cannons, etc).

They could be useful for holding objectives though. Would Thunderhawks be the only way to get them on the battlefield or can they be deployed in Drop Pods too?

I'd see Sentry Guns as Movement 0cm Armoured Vehicles. Probably a 5+ or 6 save.
Twin las or Twin heavy, probably twin las more expensive.

Special Rules- Can contest, not control.

So you could Garrison them, probably on your Blitz to make it a bit more difficult for the Opp to capture.
