meh... I dislike nurbs. makes for more challenge getting high res curves though. I'll see if I can toss something together really qick and see if blender plays nice with nurbs though :)

The route from Sketchup to STL is not very reliable yet (at least, for me).

I could probably quickly create a 3DM/STL version in MoI given a Sketchup file as a starting point.

Could you ask CELS on my behalf for a file, or should I? The Manticore Secundus would be good. I can reciprocate with a file of my own.

I've send him a message about it. I hope he will reply soon, only problem is that his computer kind of died yesterday so it might take a while.

I sent some files to David Mihail / Justicar for quote, but he's travelling. Judging from prior experience I'll probably pay $90 for this stuff.

Files were:
Nectaris Bison S-61 tank
Zombie robot turret
Baroque and Gothic Dresden windows
A ship counter for Federation & Empire

There is a good chance I may start on some Krieg stuff soon. If that's the case a heavy gun carriage seems likely. And what goes in gun carriages? Guns, of course. One of them is a heavy mortar.

That dovetails nicely into my upcoming eBay of the Medusa enclosure, so I did some more modelling of the heavy mortar cannon. And so...

Edit: Hm, maybe I should add some gubbins to the top part.

Moscovian and I think the Necron Warbarque should be my next 'public' project. (Note that this implies the existence of 'secret' projects). The secrets will be revealed in due time. All will be shown!

I can actually make progress on that, as opposed to the 6mm sister.

It will be an exercise in modelling, as a war engine may be too large to actually print.

That depends on who decides to fund the project, and how freaking awesome it looks.  :))

I honestly think O-Man will have an easy task of it.  The model's overall design lends itself to 3-D printing.

Question: what are the size limitations on the print and can it potentially be printed in 2 parts if size is a factor?  Perhaps a front and back.

We won't be bumping into the upper limits of the printer, just the funding.

For a bronze master, a 6 cubic centimeter model(s) cost $150. For a plastic master, about $100 for that.

If I recall the heft of your warbarque, it was about 5cm x 3cm x 3cm, or 45 cubic centimeters. We may have to do it in parts.

Then again, the price point might not be linear. I'll ask Todd.

Edit - question asked and answered. The volume to cost relationship is linear.

Here's the concept sketch that started the concept of the Warbarque back in the early 2000s...

Is this the general shape we're after? I wanted to get the proportions correct before slapping on weapons, panel lines, and gubbins.

seems pretty accurate to the sketch.

Can you not design it as several thin panels that glue together?

cut's down on volume massively.
people can fill the inner with anything they want (blu-tac!) to give it some heft.

I've found a way to produce STL files on AutoCad, mind if i've a go at the sister?

Yeps, we can try the panel method. It's an interesting trade off.

The panelized version has more parts. More parts means increased design and casting complexity, but less volume. That decreases the prototype cost some (depending upon the number of panels and volume savings) and decreases the material cost.
