Right, subject to Gavin's ratification of the scores the UK Championship site has been updated to include the results of Britcon. Enjoy

I'd exclude Rug (Matt A) from the championship too Dave :)

I blame him for not turning up to more tournaments. He'd have been on the leader board already and I wouldn't have forgotten to add him  :oo:

All fixed now, until someone finds the next error

Just spotted this and wanted to congratulate you on the website, it's the perfect thing for stat-hungry gamers!

A couple of things that would maybe be worth considering if you've got the time/inclination.

1) Links to army lists used.

And, if you're really stuck for things to do...

2) Have you considered starting a ranking system (could be world-wide) along the lines used by the NAF for Blood Bowl? I've always enjoyed that aspect of BB tournaments... It's based on the ELO system (which I think is used in chess) and is explained in all its gory detail here: NAF (edit: I can't get the link to get to the right bit of the page, but there's a link to an FAQ here that explains it...) Given the small size of the Epic community it might just be manageable.

Thanks for the comments.

Right now the site is a load of static html. I am planning on getting a database sorted behind it and converting the pages to php, just not had the time/inclination for a variety of real life reasons and the need to paint toy soldiers for competitions! Once that is done there will be more scope for generating data for the stat hunger gamer out there.

I'll take a look at the NAF ranking stuff, although I'm a member I've never actually made it to a BB tournament yet  :sigh:

Sounds like you've got some good plans there, I'll keep my eye on the site and try and dream up a way to get to a tournament.

The NAF thing is neat, I think, because it allows coaches to be ranked in relation to each other in a pretty broad sense (rather than at single tournaments where certain players will be absent). It's downside is that it doesn't take into account the fact that players might play once, score well and never play again. (Witness my Skaven team, the 25th best in the world, who I haven't used in ages and yet who don't drop down the rankings). The other neat thing is that each player is rated by race played so you can see who has won with what at any point. If you're interested I'm pretty sure the NAF chaps would share some code if asked nicely...

IN the very long run I think something like your site could really encourage people to set up tournaments and to get people playing. I've run about five BB tournaments and the fact that the NAF was about was (a bit) encouraging and helped get other people attend.

If I can help in some way let me know (although my computing skills aren't very impressive, I can do copy editing).

Again thanks for all the work put into this  :agree: .

I noticed there weren't any sportsmanship or painting scores for Britcon(I know they aren't included in the UK championship but wondered if they were not used in Manchester).

After missing the last 3 tourneys I'm surprised to be still near the top.Hopefully most will have run out of new armies to take and I can make up a little ground with 3 different amies at the final 3 events of the season  8v) ,not that anyones taking it (too)seriously  :;):

Britcon doesn't include any of the soft scores. There is a painting and sportmanship award but its split between Epic, Fantasy and 40K. Kevin was voted the best epic army but a big scale player took the prize. Grayde Bowen won most sporting, which was nice as he agreed to play to even up our numbers at really late notice.

I have added the competitions to my calculator and amended the initial entries in the thread. I have also added some statistics which may be of interest.

After five competitions, a pattern is starting to emerge with the Black Legion and Siege Masters proving very potent, and the top players doing well generally with several armies.

Siegemasters are doing quite well? Is that based on the comps they have been in only? The total table seems to show the Black Legion massively in front, then a bunch of races then marines.

Yes it is Chris. They have only been fielded three times each by a different person (you, Bill Ely and Damien Bradley), and both you and Bill managed to gain points (11) giving an average of 3.66 per player / use.

They are also being used under the existing points system rather than your reduced values - so they ought to be doing better than average.

However, the BL are indeed massively in front coming in the top three of every competition despite being used by 6 different people.

Without knowing the ranking system for the tournament and the players involved its probably not that interesting. None of which you can work into raw stats unless you come up with a system for it.

Have any of these been played with the suggested CSM changes?

Which means what and is based on what?

Stats aren't actually useful unless you have a good sample size and stats in isolation aren't too useful. I'm always far more interested in reports from tournaments instead of stats from them

All the tournaments here use the official lists so no experimental changes are used and probably never will be. If people are paying to play we need to use a common base that the widest population will be familiar with.

Now the stats may not mean much but they are there for people to look at. Batreps are always subjective too generally documented from one sides view.

Gavin, I've played 3 different armies, Guard, Eldar and Black Legion.

Well, I agree that "a pattern" is, scientifically speaking, impossible to claim with the data given. You need a _lot_ more data to even begin looking at significiant differences.

But then, "a pattern is starting to emerge", while statistically false, is a rather cautious assumption.
