Hello!

I have quite a huge Tyranid army from SM/TL days, and I plan on trying it with the new rules peaople here are working hard on balancing (Thank you very much by the way!).

My question is:

- what do you represent the new unit types with?
Namely: Vituperaptors, Hydraphant, raveners, mycetic spores, nodes, hierodules, hydras, etc.?

- what are old hierodules now? and old hierophants?

TYVM!

Great questions!

Okay, first off, old models with new names:

The old Hierodule Bio-Titan is now the Hierophant Bio-Titan (Forge World went and named their "smaller" bio-war engines Hierodules, so we followed suit.)

The larger old Hierophant Bio-Titan is now the Hydraphant.

New models:

Mycetic spores - you don't need models, they are merely markers/counters and you don't ever really need to put them on the boards.

Meiotic/Aerial Spores - 40k Spore Mines

Raveners - 40k Ripper Swarm models are what is usually used, though there is an excellent way to combine a Hormagaunt and a Gargoyle conversion around as well.

Synapse Nodes - 40k "Infestation Markers" from the Battle for MacCragge set or the Genestealer box. You can usually get these on eBay for cheap.

Hierodules - Most people convert them using 40k Tyranids, either using a Termagant or a Tyranid Warrior as a base.

Vituperator - Again, usually converted from 40k Tyranids.

There should be some pictures of various conversion in the Modelling section of the forum. ?I'll see if I can find any good links for you.

Thank ye Chroma!

What are the new hierodules and vituperaptors supposed to look like? as in what type of creature are they? whats the design concept behind them?

Hierodules looks like this:

Scythed:

Barbed:

Vituraptors look like whatever you want as long as they're large, since there's never been a model, and it's incredibly unlikely that there ever will be one.

Think of a Vituperator as a "Grandmother Harridan" and you won't be far off.

The original suggested "stand in" conversion for the Vituperator (iirc, back in the glory days when we expected a mini to be created) was a Harridan with a Dom head.  I've seen them donverted from 40k Warriors and smaller biotitan bodies, which are roughly the same size.  Presumably, a Ravener could be used as well, since it's in that same ballpark.

Basically, go crazy and make it any way you think it will look cool

This is a group shot of my two Scythed Hierodules and Trygon; all based on 40k Termagants.  The the Tyrgon has an original EPIC Tyrgon for the tail part.

I recently got my mitts on some buggy stuff and downloaded ver 8.4 to have a gander at.

I am happy to use 40k parts to build some of the models that are not catered for (hierophant, hierodules, trygon) but I was wondering what the consensus is on other models that are hard to come by such as malefactors dactylis, exorcrine.

Size wise they seem comparable to large tanks but since I was planning on using tyranid warriors as hierophants and gaunts as trygons, hierodules (with suitable conversions) what models could I use to represent the nid artillery on a budget? Would it be acceptable to model them on the gaunt chasis with some conversion work or would they be too large?

D.

Hello daemonkin

This thread has some pics of some fantastic Tyranid "tanks" using various bio-morph pieces from the 40k Tyranid sprues. Take a look!

I use Genestealers, heavily converted, to make Exocrines and Dactylii biop/tanks. Basically I chop off the 'stealer's legs and sculpt a stinger going under the belly, pointing forwards with Green Stuff. Then I chop off the head and add a Termagaunt gun as a sort of "gun head". Then I fill out the sides with Green Stuff, where the Genestealer's arms would normally be fastened. For rear legs, I take a pair of 'stealer arms, cut them in two and re-attach then with one joint mounted behind the ohter. This is kinda hard to explain, I'll see if I can get a wip photo posted. The lower end of this leg is then made complete with the attachment of a single Genestealer rear arm claw. The end result is a pair of hind legs mimicking those one the Hierophant and Hydraphant Bio-titans, only much smaller. For front legs I use Scything talons from 40K Tyranid warriors, or Starship Trooper Bug legs. Use filing and Green Stuff to fill in joint etc.

The end result are bio-tanks that look like smaller versions of the big Bio-titans. For Exocrines I use a 40K Termagaunt gun as the Bio-Cannon, for Dactylii I make use of other Termagaunt guns such as Spine Guns or even cut up Devourers attached at an upwards pointing angle to make them look more like artillery broods.

Hope that helps. With the Malefactors and Haruspexi I use Gaunt bodies, but with legs shortened according to the principles above. Then I add lots of scything claws or devourers for the respective bio-tank. I also trim the tail down substantially.

Like I said, its a WIP, but some pictures will be posted in the coming few weeks.

I found this while looking for a size comparison picture for a Land Raider/Defiler (if anyone can take one for me I would be really grateful)

Is someone can't do something with that, you lot suck, hell I'm tempted by one to convert into a Nurgle Spaceship ;P

The only issue really is the cost.. but it's not that bad as it is huge
